One of the best professors I've had at MiraCosta! Very motivated to help students succeed. I don't understand all the negative reviews that were written about her, yes the class is a science course so it's going to be more difficult than others but study and you'll be fine. Make sure to take detailed notes and ask questions if confused.

I come from a communication background and don't have experience in Biology. If this is you, then this class will be VERY difficult. The ONLY people in the class that did well were the bio majors. Without countless out of class study sessions with friends there would have been no chance of passing. She expects everyone to know what she knows.

Obviously very knowledgable and passionate about plants. However, can sometimes take a while to get to people asking questions. Expertise is definitely in macro of plants; she has little familiarity with epigenetics, the equivalency of energy and matter, or things more macro but involving plants (like plants' effect on/relation w/ envir/climate).

No idea why she has so many good reviews but she's horrible. The most challenging class I've ever taken. Useless field trips that you have to attend, if you miss a lab you get a 0 on it. Doesn't let you make up anything even if you're sick/have an emergency. Ridiculous class and a ridiculous professor. Hated her and the class.

2 Lab Practicums short answer & 3 non-cumulative M/C exams. Tests had a class avg. of a C. HW is optional but helps for the daily quizzes. Lots of useless field trips and doesnt let u make up any missed labs/assignments which makes no sense as students have lives/emergencies outside of class. Hated this class so much, and struggled greatly.

One of the most AWFUL prof I have taken in my many semesters here at MCC. Very nit-picky on lab work and will mark you down points if you dont print double sided?? There is a quiz everyday and if you dont do your homework you wont pass the quizes. Noticable if she doesnt like you & she makes rude remarks. She made me not enjoy this class.

A really great teacher that knows her content and cares about it. In terms of homework, nothing is turned in and most everything is covered in lecture. Definitely do the work though so you can get points with quizzes. Be ready to drive to go to all sorts of fun field trips.

Life changing! There is a lot of memorization, Stillinger sets up her course as a pattern of different study habits. If you DO NOT DO the homework you will struggle and more than likely fail. She knows what she is talking about! She applies a lot of real life scenarios to the course. Don't miss daily quiz's they help your grade dramatically!

Professor Stillinger is Phenomenal! The course was challenging for me but extremely interesting. By far one the best classes I've taken!. There are many fun outdoor activities - be ready to take notes, and pay attention because you will need the information to answer lab questions and short essays. Key is to be there, work, and study hard.

Great teacher. Cares about what she does and knows what she is talking about. Class takes fun field trips! Tough on grading her short answers on tests and lab practicums. Lab practicums are pulled directly from the labs, study those hard. Focuses a lot on vocab words from lectures. Pay attention to everything she says.

Stillinger is an amazing professor and a very intelligent and funny lady. She loves to teach and knows her stuff about environmental biology. It was a pleasure to be in her class. Just work hard and don't be lazy. Wish more professors were more like her :) If you need to take a life science, I would recommend her!

I absolutely love Mrs. Stillinger. The field trips that we took were so fun, and I learned a lot from the class. It really isnt that hard of a class if you show up, take notes, and do the assigned packets. I would take this class again in a heart beat, and I learned so much!

Outstanding teacher. She keeps the class involved by asking questions. The contingency to get an A in her class is proportionate to your level of involvement.Best advice: don't miss class (ever),understand all homework questions and comprehend all lecture notes. You will be well prepared after her class.Take her class if you want to surpass your peers

When I was taking the class I didn't like it because it was challenging and requires a lot of study and reading to understand the work. It's not an easy A for sure and Denise expects a lot HOWEVER, looking back it's one of my favorite classes I've taken at MCC and Denise is one of the best professors I've had. Highly Recommend.

Prof. Stillinger was one of the best teachers I had at Mira Costa. You can tell she really knows her stuff but you have to be prepared to work if you want to pass. You would be lucky to have her.

So i took her for my last bio class. It was def not easy, but def acceptable. You get points for doing your hw and turning them in everyday, the test is based on her lectures and hw so as long as you do your hw, attend lectures, take notes, and study material you should be able to get an A or B. Her pep talk in end is great!

Denise is fair and direct. We turned in homework worksheets daily which counted toward our overall grade. She met with me during office hours and was very fair. If you show up on time, every day, and study you will do well. I rewrote my notes every day after class and that helped a lot.

Just a bad worthless class. Her lectures are too watered down. For someone who doesn't read the homework to see if you are right she grades too strictly on it.
