While this class does give a lot of homework, Doug was great to work with. If something came up and you didn't make the deadline, no issue. I wouldn't take advantage of that though, it might not work out for you.

Comment:

Professor Peterson was always responsive to emails and helpful. The class itself and the assignments are easy as long as you do the work. I would definitely recommend taking this course online and I would also recommend Doug. He has clear expectations and I had no problems with this class.

Be prepared to do everything yourself. Clearly hasn't updated his lectures or instructions to lessons in years, minimum to no effort from teacher. Easy class though as long as you are resourceful and turn in assignments.

He was very clear with his expectations right from the start. There was quite a bit of homework throughout the summer semester that required quite a bit of time to complete. He gave extra credit for projects that he felt were exceptional.

took this class online over the summer. Easiest class ever. basically just the icc equivalent of that required computer class in high school. Thing is, Doug thinks it's the most important thing in the world. He's too hardcore, and grades harshly. Easy class though. I got an A just fine, so will you. Just be ready to do a lot of stupid work.

Doug is an amazing professor. He cares about his students and helping them out. His typical class was reviewing previous material and doing a class example of one of the two assignments he gives a week to do. On lab days he gives a fairly straightforward assignment and gives you hours to work on it with a partner. Great guy, great class.

At first I was intimidated by Doug's expectations. He put this class at a 7 point scale and the homework load varied each week. I was not a fan of the SAM program, but Doug was flexible. There were some parts of the class I struggled with (ie: MS Access), but managed to get through. If you are not a strong independent learner, don't take it online

Really cool guy! His typical class period is him doing one of the assignments with you. He'll ask the class how to do the assignment and help the entire class finish one of the two assignments. If you are not paying attention or doing the work with him, you will not do so well in the class. Answers questions well and gives manageable work!

Do not take over the summer because you will get no help. The only sort of lecture is telling us what chapter to read. He then proceeds to ask us to do specific mods to programs in the book, that we were never told how to do. The tutor herself was absolutely worthless, I would go in for 3 hours and get nothing done because she would refuse to help.

I would have rather taken this in person. Online was the only option. He is strict on grading in this class versus another programming class I had him in. He is willing to help you when you need it. Don't procrastinate and fall behind or you will drown. Offers many forms of office hours between in person and online and stresses tutor hours too.

Very laid back, but make sure you have your ducks in a row. If you ask for help, he will give it, and he will also refer you to the help lab tutors. The lectures follow the book, but if you're completely green, you might have to find help because the book is about as clear as a chocolate bar.

Doug knows a lot about programming, but isn't always clear about new concepts for beginners. If you already have some basic experience, he's a great fit. He also let my class redo any late homework before the end of the semester.

Great guy, funny, and entertaining. His teaching style could use improvement. If you're already a pro with computers, I HIGHLY recommend his classes. If you're looking for someone to teach you something, find another professor or prepare to spend a lot of time with a tudor. As long as you do the assignments, it's an easy "A".

Be sure you don't have any issues! if you have problems submitting an assignment and you can't make his office hours due to work.... big fat ZERO! Absolutely ridiculous! Summer class is stupid! you can have no life. Makes you do stupid stuff that has nothing to do with course! Can't wait to be done with this class FOR SURE!!!

Doug's class is not hard. I took cmpsc 135 & 235. He IS NOT able to answer most of your questions about programming, but always find a way to critic them. Everything you learn, you will teach yourself because Doug does not lecture. He writes programs but doesn't explain how they work.

Do not even bother buying the book for this class if you have a general understanding of Microsoft Office even in the slightest. I entered this course with a basic knowledge of Office and there is only one assignment that actually requires book usage towards the end of the course. Now I have a ~$138 book that sits on my dresser.
