Comment:
Emily was my adviser when I attended B. U. (1963-67). She was an inspirational teacher and she definitely taught me how to construct a solid argument. She changed my life. I went on to get a Ph.D. in English because of her. She was very demanding, but she brought out the best in the students who were willing to work for their grades.

I studied with Emily at B.U. in 1961. She was the best professor I ever had...brilliant, witty, very supportive, insightful. She changed my life.

Prof Dalgarno is one of the most pretentious people I've ever met. Her unclear directions and criticism in papers does not help students to improve, but rather frustrates you to the point of giving up. I do not recommend her as a professor or an advisor.

mediocre, I'd say. In her papers, if you gave her what she wanted, you'd get the A-- wouldn't look for depth of thought-- just structure/organization, etc and nitpicky over stupid things. Some of her discussions were interesting, though.

Great, wonderful professor. Very intelligent and accomodating. Always willing to help and make time for students. Gives good commentary on papers, but also expects A LOT out of them in return. Take this if you want to LEARN, and not just get a grade.
