Comment:
She structured the class was far different from the other linear algebra classes. She made the class an entirely applied linear algebra. I understand her intentions to make the class more engaging, but the concepts in this class are essential to other classes and the basics were basically not covered. The best way to do well is by memorizing HWs.

You cannot hear her voice, You cannot read her writings, You cannot understand the book, You won't be able to do the HW, and fosho, You cannot pass this class. She gave the hardest teaching and the most horrible study experience for her students. Half of the class reported her to the department

Don't ever try to take her class. (especially ma242) She chooses a book that is completely different from other sections. She somehow makes it 1000 times harder than the original linear algebra. I mean I respect that she is a famous mathematician but she certainly doesn't know how to teach an introductory level course.

She somehow found a way to make calculus two even more inaccessible and confounding. Her classes were the low point of my college career. Shes very boring and makes simple mathematical constructs unnecessarily complex.

Comment:
Professor Previato's courses are rather unique in this department; she does not caring for grading much. I believe she expects (or she merely can't explain concepts anymore due to aging) students complete reading the material beforehand so her class presents another approach or mathematically interested examples. ONLY take her if you're enthusiast.

Emma cares a lot about her students. However much effort you put in, she will double it. She is very funny too. She can be harsh to students who don't try but it's generally deserving. If you show that you care and are eager to learn, she will be appreciative and will help your grade out even if you have been performing poorly on quizzes.

taking this seminar-style class with her was a fantastic experience. She cares deeply about you if you are passionate and will endorse any creativity, especially if your ideas are crazy like hers :) While Emma can be brash to students who do not take her seriously, she is a fantastic resource and true friend if you treat her with respect.

She is unbelievably rude. Asking questions will end with you confused, and her insulting you andor taking away credit from your grade. Homeworks are easy, quizzes are the homework questions, partial credit is nonexistent, and she curves. I walked into my final without any knowledge of what's on it or the format, despite asking several times.

6 tests imagine that! Exact copy from HW problems so better memorize the answers coz there's no way you can finish calculating all that in 50 minutes! Except final, which is a complete different story from midterms.

Professor Previato is one of the kindest professors at BU. Putting her personality aside though, her teaching is far from perfect. In class she would talk very softly and constantly made mistakes in her work on the board. I stopped going to lecture and just studied independently. After this my grade went up by about 20%.

Despite the bad reviews, she is my favorite professor so far. She teaches with the assumption that you've already read the chapter and then goes and walks you through proofs of the equations. Personally I think she makes perfect sense. She cares for her students. If you are having trouble she will go out of her way to help you out.

I took Multivariate Calc once before, but with an even worse professor than this one. Prof. Previato is extremely nice, but can't teach very well at all. She relies way too much on her notes, and can't answer questions without spending 10 minutes trying to find what the student is pointing out. Lecture started with ~100 people, ended with ~25.

Congratulations. You chose the worst math professor at BU. All jokes aside, I really gave her a chance. She's a good person, but she can't teach to save her life. 50 minutes with the TA (bless his soul) taught me more than a week of her lectures.

lecture is useless, and she doesn't use the Mymathlab you purchased, and that means you have to take every discussion class to take the qiuz to proof you did the homework, which is hard because I sometime overslept and missed the quiz.Beside she speaks extremely slow with strange accent, and she writes in very tiny words, invisible actually.

Lectures are useless. Don't go unless you want to sleep or take the notes (which usually are not worth your while either). Tests are based entirely off homework, so this class will basically force you to learn everything yourself, either by reading the textbook or using the MyMathLab tutorials if you have taken MA 123 or 124 prior to this class.

:Lectures were absolutely useless, answers to homework problems were unclear and often omitted steps. Grading was unfair, with little partial credit. Terrible course, terrible professor.

Lectures are useless. Why waste this time when you could be on facebook. I really thought she couldn't be as bad as everyone said, but she is. Read the textbook and worship it, 'cause nothing that comes out of her mouth makes sense. Tests are easy since she "doesn't believe in thinking" during exams, and practice probs are identical to actual exam.

You can really tell she cares deeply about her students. She clearly loves her subject and will go the extra mile to help her students. The subject is hard so the class is hard but how difficult you find it depends on how much you try. Hint: Read the textbook religiously, go to all lectures and catch up on anything you don't understand fast.

This professor can't teach for her life. She is too involved in her own world to realize that she is not imparting any skills or knowledge to the students. Please do not ever ask her for any help. She is unreliable.
