McCarthy is cool, just not a great lecturer. He knows literally everything about sheep and loves talking about them so get ready to learn way too much about them. He does pop quizzes but they aren't worth a lot so don't worry if you get the question wrong. STUDY or you won't pass.

Comment:

I've had Dr. McCarthy for many classes now (3 Production classes and Livestock/Ag Merch) He is a tough grader, but if you really study and make an effort, you will do fine. He goes over quizzes in class, will answer any questions, and will meet with you outside of class if need be.

Good professor but has dry lectures. Quizzes and tests can be challenging and you need to know and understand all of the lectures. I've had McCarthy for various classes. Not a lot of homework points available.

Comment:

McCarthy is one of those professors you either love or hate. His lectures can be dry at times, but that's no excuse to miss. You receive points every day just for showing up. I've taken 5 classes with him. If you sit in the front row, there's a chance you'll be picked on quite a bit. It's all in good fun though. Ask questions if you need to.

Can pass class without book, BUT you need to print off every diagram from slides. Lots of information to cover, which makes class difficult. McCarthy isn't the greatest teacher, but can get the information across fairly sufficiently. Dedicate a lot of time to class/studying at beginning 1/3 of semester to get fundamentals down.

Very helpful teacher. Very easy to talk to and ask questions. Need to study for his class but his tests and quizzes are off of his notes. Some questions are out of the book so it would be wise to read it.

Very nice professor. You have to know your notes well for his quizes and tests. His packets of notes tell you everything you need to know though, so don't even bother reading the text unless you need extra help.

Nutrition was really complicated. He uses lots of terminology that is very technical. He knows what he is talking about but he has a hard time getting it across to students. Definetly would benefit to take Biochem before trying this class.
