Sadly, Frank Dane may be a nice person to have a beer with, but as a teacher and administrator, he is intollerable. I enjoy philosophy and have had several courses in the subject, but Dane's inability to listen or hear or understand other people makes learning or working with him a torture. He needs to learn how to collaborate, not dictatate.

Great professor. Gives interesting lectures and activities for the class to participate in. Has a sense of humor and keeps things pretty informal. He'll listen to any criticism you have of the tests or class, but if he thinks you're wrong he won't hesitate to tell you. I think those who hate him either didn't try or can't handle college material.

he was a good teacher for 210b, its an easy class though. I dont think I would take him for higher level, unless you are really interested in the course. Then definately take him, you'll learn more.

Make sure that you write your paper early and take it into the Writing Center. I've always earned A's on papers. Dane was the first professor that turned this back to me to rewrite it before he would give me a grade. I worked my butt off for a B!

What, you expect in the real world your paper WON'T be returned for litle errors?! I had him for ethics. Sure, I had to work hard, but I will NEVER think about decisions at work the same way. Phil210b should be renamed "How to keep out of jail!" He is also willing to help if you email.

When 75% of the class failed our first exam he felt it was just the students fault. I felt he had some responsibility, because his lectures were very confusing. My advise to potential students is to read the book from front to back and use reference materials.

This schmuck failed 75% of the class on the midterm and then had the audacity to say to the class "well its not my teaching" I am sorry but when 75% fail thats a problem. Even though this was a ethics course he graded our papers like it was an english class returning papers for little errors.
