He's a great and caring professor. Not a hard class, show up and take good notes and you'll be fine. You don't need the book, all readings are posted, but there are A LOT of readings. Quiz's are not hard, community project is only 12 hours. Not a bad class, but kind of boring.

Dr. Hytrek is one of the kindest professors in the Geography department. Though this class was heavy on the theory in terms of social justice, it's clear that he does the work to bring awareness to spatial injustices throughout LA and tries to engage his students at the same time. This class was challenging tho; three quizzams and 10 p final essay

Take him! Work load may seem overwhelming but it is doable! No busy work, just valuable information. Additionally, he is always happy/willing to help students outside of class and is very understanding. As a head ups, this is a service learning based course so half your grade is 25 hours of service and a 10 page essay reflection.

It was in interesting class, but he assigns too much reading. There are two quizams, one take home exam (paper), and one community project. He doesn't give you the whole class period for the quizams, which sucks because the quizams are short answer questions. Overall, he's a good professor.

He is the kind of professors that we are more in need of! He is a well-rounded professor. He loves what he does, you can tell he has a passion for what he's teaching. He is funny also, class may be a bit boring but overall he is an awesome professor. Be ready to learn, read and participate. He is not a difficult professor but also not the easiest.

Soc 449 is a human rights and social justice course. Course is theoretical, but also covers current issues, such as human trafficking, health, workers' rights, immigrant rights, etc. Great class if you're interested in a sociological approach to human rights and social justice.

Has 6 reading analyses papers, 2 tests, one take-home exam paper, and a community organization project. Lectures are really long and dry at times but he is a very nice and reasonable teacher. Offers many extra credit so getting an A is very possible. He does have a sign in sheet every class, tests aren't that tough, just study the study guide.

Comment:
He's a nice guy but the class is disappointing, it's really more of a study of globalization than a study of social change. Lectures are dry. Hytrek includes a community service aspect to the curriculum which I personally felt was welcome in such a course. He's passionate about grassroots work and the topics dealing with that are much better.

He is very passionate in this topic, some said it was boring but I didn't feel that way at all. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities but you have to go to things for them. I got a B but if I did the extra credit it would be a good A

Very boring, his speech was difficult and in class discussion didn't relate to the name of the class or the readings. Do all extra credit it comes in handy. one exam, 2 papers must read for them so start early but pretty much a okay class take it but keep up with syllabus and do extra credit

love Love LOVE Prof. Hytrek!!! What a great guy! It's true there is a TON of reading in his classes, but as long as you stay familiar with the topics and concepts you'll do just fine. He really wants his students to do well and have fun learning :) Also took him for Political Soc 449
