Comment:
She is demanding but incredibly intelligent, and you will learn a lot from this course by paying attention and attending the lectures. She isn't as tough a grader as you might think, just remember to be clear in your papers- which expect to be long. Pacing yourself is important. Buy all the textbooks ahead of time and ask if there will be more.

She knows her history and really cares about her students but for this class the work load and what she expected was simply ridiculous. For an Intro class I wouldn't recommend it at all. It should be an upper division class.

Took Jewish Hist from the Bible with her. Lots of reading, but she was lenient towards the end of the semester. 4 papers, no tests or final. I really enjoyed the class and how she taught on the whiteboard instead of with a powerpoint.

Her grading scale is such that only 92+ gets you A-, and an A starts at 95%. LOTS of reading, especially for a lower division course. You learn a LOT, and it's incredibly interesting, but you can't skate through. She's also very Zionist, if that means anything to you.

Very difficult teacher. I had extreme difficulty with the subject material because she expects a lot from her students. But she was helpful and patient. If you haven't been challeneged and would like to be, she is the prof for you.

Is often more interested in proving her points and ideas than helping students understand the material or come up with their own ideas. Also speaks about departmental issues which are none of her business and should be be part of class.

As a professional historian working in a 42-employee company, and entering the doctoral program with a master's degree, I was shocked at the way Professor Samuelson chooses to engage with her students. If I treated my clients in the same manner, I would be out of business in two days and my reputation would be seriously marred. She fails to real

Samuelson is awesome. She is challenging in a way that makes you expect more out of yourself because she expects it. She has class discussions in which she talks with you, not at you. One of the best teachers I have ever had!

I've taken Hava several times and have only good to report. I must say that the essay topics and readings are actually enjoyable. I have learnt a great deal from her and intend to pursue Jewish-American literature and culture in graduate school partly because of her.

She's an authority on Jewish History, helpful outside of class, emminently interesting, and assigns so much reading that 50% of the class drops after the first day. Take this class, it will show you what college should have been like.
