AWESOME! Great class. You can learn a lot and do well if you go to class and do the work each day--it leads up to the papers anyway. I loved the discussions and found her very open to different veiws. Don't take if you're a slacker.

AWESOME! Great class. Very organized and clear. You will have to work but if you do the assignments well, they all work into your papers. Not a good class for slackers.

LOVED this class and this prof, esp the discussions. I disagreed with her a lot and she was always respectful and didn't grade me down when she disagreed. She challenged me to deeper thining. Very open minded and helpful when I had some personal issues. Hard class but if you want to learn-great.

I learned more in this class than any other English class. She makes you think. I found her to be very unbiased and fair though with high expectations. The only way to fail this class is to be to lazy to keep up with the very basic daily homework.

Extremely biased. You can write the best paper of your life but if it doesn't reflect her personal opinions, you will fail it. Even though she teaches how every opinion has its merit. I was a 4.0 student before this class. She absolutely grills you and makes you feel worthless. Nothing you do will ever be good enough. She is dreadful. AVOID HER!

VanEck is not the worst professor I have had, but very far from the best. She always tells you to "refer to the syllabus." She likes to talk more about how bad everyones writing is than actually teach the class. I had to miss class for personal reasons, and we agreed on me emailing her the assignment. She wrote back "look at syllabus."

She is a very biased conservative teacher. I wrote a paper that agreed with her viewpoints and got a good grade, so if you do take her, agree with her opinions in your papers. There is a lot of work involved in the class too. If you follow her instructions to the tee, then you should get an A.

One of the worst professors I've had. She is not helpful, or concerned that majority of kids fail her class. She does not compromise. If a topic on a paper is something she doesn't agree with, she will tell you to change your topic. The class is harder than what it needs to be. Even with time and effort it is very hard to receive a decent grade.

Very tough teacher. But I would recommend her class if you are not good at writing papers. She gives you alot of helpful guides and gives you alot of points for other things besides your papers. There is alot of work towards start of semester and gets easier.once she weeds out the drop students she is real easy going. Just do the work&you will pass

she is TERRIBLE...she grades her work the way she wants like if you dont have something in the paper she dont like then she will mark a lot of points off. she will tell you what not to write about because she dont like it but wont tell you what to write about. also she is very unbiased. sheis always talking about cultures or barack and romoney.

She doesn't care if you are having trouble her excuse is "your a college student figure it out." Harsh grader. Tries to reteach us her way of doing things but doesn't realize were learning something totally new. No patience.

I really liked her as a teacher overall. If you do the assignments and go to class, you'll do just fine. There is usually something due every time you meet in class, but they are short assignments. There was no final exam, just an 8 page final paper. :)

There's a lot of work, but she helps you along. Go see her!!! She's really understanding and wants you to pass! Just don't slack off. And pay attention for when stuff is due! She's nice, but don't turn in half-crap work cause she sometimes won't accept it! (Like a six page draft that should be ten pages!)

I am very happy that I took her class last semester--it is helping me out a lot with a very difficult writing class this semester. I recommend taking her but keep up with the work. She makes you write a lot. If you just do the daily work you'll learn a lot and you will for sure pass.

I took her class a few years ago. Those complaining about her are obviously the people who were talking, texting, or not paying attention during class. She's an amazing professor. I started out as the worst type of writer possible. Two years later, my other professors are commenting on how well I write. I owe it to you, Mrs. Van Eck!

Mrs. Van Eck is a horrible teacher that will give you an assignment, not teach about it and expect you to turn it in and then she will teach it. If you have a different point of view than she has you will have a very hard time passing her class. Don't waste your time.
