I was a member of his very first class in 1967. Note that this was 40+ years ago, when students actually worked for their grades. Incredible enthusiasm, I loved his personal life story, he really knew his stuff. He CARED. And he said he could tell how riveting his lectures were by how fast I was knitting.

Professor Zwelling is incredibly open and receptive to a diverse array of opinions on the nature of religious behavior. He is very helpful and dedicated to all of his students. He seeks for all his students to genuinely understand the material, and will meet you one on one to explain any concepts that might be confusing. A great man!

Sweet, approachable. Not the most focused lecturer, but he's very enthusiastic and deeply knowledgable. Old Testament is a great course if you're interested in the intersections of religion, history, anthropology, and literature.

if you'll notice, the bad reviews were for "judaisms". religion101 was an amazing class with zwelling! one of the best i've taken at wesleyan. his lectures were incredibly interesting to me. but if you don't have an open mind about what can be classified as a religion, don't bother.

The nicest guy in the world. He is overwhelmingly helpful. Although lectures seem to follow a tangent, you end up learnign a lot. There is a lot of work but as long as you do it, you will be able to suceed

Quite possibly the biggest waste of time and money ever. He is a very nice guy, but couldn't create a cohesive idea in his lecture if he tried. The course packets were expensive, the readings are as tedious and unclear as the lectures, but it's easy.
