He is a nice man but he is scattered brained. The class is pointless. His study sessions are a complete waste of time.

I agree with the other students that he is a very nice proffessor, but it's just that the quizz are sometime hard. Reading the whole chapter for only five questions. I also agree that he is not that of an orgazine teacher. But yeah, he is a nice proffessor.

Jerry is the nicest teacher ever!!!! I love him! He was funny to listen to but his tests are hard. Read the manual, write/highlight your notes in the manual (so it looks like you have taken more notes) Very easy to read book. Religion was super easy with Richards. Go to study sessions. Read handouts. Very hard to read notes on projector.

unorganized, and hard to understand. His notes are all hand written in cursive and extremely a pain to read them. He grades your notes. I had 10 pages front and back on only the two chapters we covered and he gave me a C. Quiz every class and is hard regardless if you read or not. Poorly written exams and hard to understand.

Richards is a sweet old guy & loves what he teaches, but he cannot communicate it well to the class. Daily quizzes are ridiculously hard even if you read. I highly recommend going to the study sessions, he will read off questions from the test including E.C.! If you are really interested or have a lot of time for reading, I suggest taking him.

Jerry Richards is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is intelligent useful and passionate. He is very challenging, however if you study, got to study sessions read and pay attention you will do well. His daily quizzes to suck but he means well. He is very interesting if you get to know him so I suggest attending his office hours.

Jerry Richards is a very smart, nice, and intelligent man. That said, he is a very disorganized professor and this caused a lot of confusion in his class. My best advice is to READ for daily quizzes and use the book website to review for tests. Go to his review sessions.

Very nice guy. Extremely hard tests. You will do fine on the tests is you go to the study sessions, read and take notes on the readings, pay attention/ take notes in class (I suggest using a laptop because he talks pretty fast), and study the handouts.

All I can say is go to the study sessions. I hate study sessions but he tells you 85% of whats on the test including the extra credit. There are 5 point tests EVERY class period. They seriously suck. Even if you read the material they are harder than they should be. Lectures are boring. I try to pay attention but its nearly impossible.

I took Richards' class to finish up my cultural diversity requirement. Lectures consisted of off-topic ramblings, random and un-focused pictures of his travels, and un-related, sometimes inappropriate, stories of his personal life. He is a nice guy, but I highly recommend taking a different professor.

If you are interested in really learning about world religions, do not take this professor. He is a nice enough guy, and is very smart, however, he is a sub-average professor. You'll spend all semester on ANCIENT history of different religions. Very little is exciting or relevant to today.

Test=Impossible. The class average on 2 of the 5 tests was an F. Upside was the journals that were terrible to do but I doubt he looked at them and just gave everyone 100% on them. The journals were about 30% of the grade. Very funny guy but completely random all the time.

Definitely a challenging class that you have to pay attention to. Even though he gives you a book of notes, I recommend taking your own notes in addition to those. He's been everywhere and can provide interesting, personal examples of whatever you're studying. Very funny and engaging.

I would definitely not recommend taking this professor! Learning religions should be interesting and something that is fun to study. Going to class was worthless he skipped around from subject to subject, story to story and wasn't easy to follow or take notes. If this is a class your interested in, look into finding another professor.

Quizzes everyday, attendance is a must. Lectures are very confusing and boring. He is very random & talks about himself alot. Exams aren't bad as long as you study & go to study sessions. Keep up with the journals, not easy to catch up when you dont do them. Do a good abstract and you will probably pass. Try to avoid Richards if you can.

Quizzes are frustrating. Tests range a lot in what they cover.Lectures can be confusing, but Jerry is very friendly and is glad to help with any questions. My advice?Type a really good Abstract for Journal (very important!).Attend all classes and Study Sessions. Read assignments and do Extra Credit on tests. If you do these, a good grade is likely.

I respectfully discourage you from taking a class with this professor. I am VERY interested in religions and I do the readings and pay attention during lectures and I still am at a C+ which is way below the norm for me, esp. in a class I actually care about. I attribute this to the disorganization of everything about this course. VERY frustrating!

ok here is the scoop. you have to come to class every day. he has a quiz ever class. the quizzes are 5 points and the reading is about 10-30 pages, so the material you have to know is very vague. these five points add up and thats why i'm doing bad in this class otherwise its an interesting subject, but boring class.

Jerry is a nice guy but let's be honest, he's a terrible lecturer. He tends to show a lot of pictures and throw out a lot of terms that honestly aren't important to you. You MUST come to class each day to take the daily quizzes, which require you to read the chapters in the book at least twice over. His lectures are pointless, don't take him.

Dr.Richards was a difficult professor. His lectures are super boring and he never really stays on task. His tests are quite hard. Make sure you take notes from his lectures, that's where he gets test questions. Also to make sure to attend his test reviews. He gives you the answers.
