The French grading system here of 95% is top score, no 100% is absurd. This automatically lowers the grades. Professor Luks teaches French as an advanced English teacher would teach the origins and semantics of English. While interesting, it does not help learn the language much. Sections are where you learn everything, and grading varies by TAs.

awesome professor! try to get into her section if you can!! she will teach french better than any of the TAs, is very understanding, and is instructive rather than critical.

Though she is the 'teacher' for french 121, I only saw her every other monday, except after I stopped going to lecture. In this class, I nothing happens at lectures, so you only really have to go to section. It is a very well-balanced and organized class.

Prof. Luks was very helpful, and spent lots of time creating handouts based on common grammatical troubles that our class had. She was pretty lax (maybe too much?) about speaking English in class, though.

Prof. Luks realizes that we're new to the language and doesn't penalize mistakes as much as she corrects them. Even though the class is very fast-paced, she makes it clear enough to keep up with.
