Looked forward to this class every week. I had a little bit of background in art before this class but no art skills are needed. Ask for help if you need it. I only worked outside class once (because I wanted to, not since I needed to). Only downside is it is hard to know what your grade is. Show up, complete the work, and get a good grade.

Comment:

If art is something you care about then take him, if it isn't, don't. He's a great professor and is really passionate about the arts. This class is mandatory for all art majors and minors and he's the man to take. You cover the basics - contour line, graphite, color, etc., so it can get a bit boring. Put the effort in and you'll get an A.

I have had Thein for about...well, 5 classes now. I absolutely love the man. He has a guiding force unlike any I have ever seen, with a vision to match. To those who say he is a hard teacher or doesnt have a clear grading scale probably dont put in the effort needed to excel in an art class....this is college and art is hard. buck up.

This is meant to be an intro. course, but Thein teaches it as if it were a grad. course. He provides no grading scale, no indication of how you will be graded or tested, and expects you to have or develop artistic talent (acc. to him). Very subjective grader and biased towards art that coincides with his personal opinions. Take at your own risk!

Thein has terrible subjective grading scales. He has the view that even if you are bad at art, you should be able to whip up something amazing. I came to class, tried my best, and got a B when I completed every task ever assigned. I am nearly a 4.0 student and hate getting Bs in subjectively graded classes.

my only dislike was that he likes to hear himself talk which takes time away from working but it also made everything clear. Glass Casting in the Kiln was a really fun class. I want to take art fundamentals with him now.

He is a really good teacher, but you never know exactly what is going on in the guys head. You never know exactly what he wants, so it is kinda frustrating. You dont know his grading scale which sucks too. Oh well in all easy and fun class, if you put in effort you will get at least a B.

Very insightful, experienced, and visual man. He gives great advice. You get what you put into the class and he realizes that when grading. Great for art students who wish to grow.

Prof. Thein is the teacher to take in the art department. He is funny and will teach you more in 5 minutes than other teachers will teach you in five minutes.
