I took developmental and intro. Lots of textbook based lectures. Gives a couple other assignments. He sometimes is interesting, but it is a very bland class. NOT BAD, but also not the best here at Houghton.

I've taken 2 courses with this man and he seems fine at first, but then the crazy starts to come out. He is an ex-soldier (marine, I think) and is pretty OCD. His tests are multiple choice, so are about memorizing facts rather than having a comprehensive knowledge of the subject. He is okay at listing information, but in a cyborg kind of way.

A class that I was looking forward to turned out to be boring and very difficult. JVW is very clear about what he wants from you, but extremely tough grader and the final was the death of many people. Not gracious at all.

Mainly he just lectures. Gets really boring and his tests are evil. There are things on there you won't find in the book or your notes. God only knows what lies in the head. Avoid this prof if possible!

very clear expectations and a good guy. you get every possible question for the test-the only thing you don't know is which questions you will have. didn't like how the tests aren't really on the lectures given, but all in all it's a good/helpful class.
