Tops in intellectual integrity. Sense of humor, including self-deprecating and even admitted when his father was wrong. One of the best professors I had.

I'm a graduated student who took a class from McConkie about 8 years ago. I'm rating him today because he was one of the most influential and life-changing teachers I ever had. I remember his class very well, and still think over some of the points he made.

I love Brother McConkie. Learning from him was my most valued BYU experience. I am sorry he is gone. Like anyone who stands for truth and righteousness, he has his critics. But that says more about them than it does of him. God bless you, Joseph McConkie!

I can't say enough good things about Prof. MccConkie. He knows his doctrine! I learned more in this class about the PofGP than I ever would have thought possible. This is the best class I have taken in my BYU career.

Know the scriptures & ideas behind them, especially those mentioned in class. Know the scriptures & teachings of early church presidents-most especially Joseph, but also Brigham. Go to class & listen openly. Think about what he says & compare with the scriptures & early prophets. It is true that he goes about his Father's business as many say.

Comment:
McConkie is one of the smartest teachers at BYU and knows the doctrine of the church inside and out, backing it up with scripture. However if you are one of those BYU students, and there are many out there, that think that there can be no conjecture in a study of the scriptures don't take McConkie. You aren't smart enough to understand anyway.

Comment:
McConkie is the most arrogant, self centered teacher I have come across at BYU. He teaches his own family doctrines as fact mingled with scripture. He often belittles people in class who do not believe as he does. He contradicts previous prophets teachings. The only reason he is still at BYU is because his father was Bruce R. Audit this class

Take PofGP from Mike Goodman or James Carroll instead. McConkie's class wasn't as helpful.

Digs deep into the scriptures. Love him or hate him, you have to admire how well he knows the canon. Not for the faint of heart. Work really hard and you'll be ok. Awesome class--not your average, fluffy, feel-goodie Book of Mormon class: take Dr. McConkie if you want to learn some serious doctrine on levels you've never understood before.

Comment:
Dr. McConkie doesn't teach false doctrine--he backs up every claim with the scriptures. His tests are killer, true, but if you pay attention, take good notes, and study well, you'll be fine. One of the hardest (and BEST) classes I've ever taken. If you're lazy or stupid, you'll hate his class, same as any other: hard work = payoff.

This class should be called..."Dr. McConkie's view of the Book of Mormon". SERIOUSLY!! His lectures are interesting but the tests are really really hard! I took notes everyday and did the assigned reading...it didn't help.....

Prof. McKonkie is a tough egg to crack - he tries so hard to get un-thinking students to think that he ended up losing everyone including those who wanted to understand and learn. I second/third all comments regarding organization - he was very unhelpful with class work.

Comment:
McConkie's class was definitely a lot of fun. He likes to get people talking about different doctrines and ideas, although a lot of the doctrine he teaches is his own. He follows in the footsteps of his father. His tests however are ridiculous. You have to know what he is thinking to make the right answer, and the worst part; he's proud of it.

he DOES teach his own doctrine. tests are completely unfair, unless you can read his mind (because that is what he tests on). he doesn't help students when there is miscommunication, even when it is entirely his fault. and beware...he has been known to list the wrong due dates!

Comment:
The best religion professor on campus. Can come off as pompus, but he will never teach a doctrine without scriptural citations to support it. He is willing to take any question which the class may give him. If you want to take a religion class that will teach you things you've never heard before (THAT ARE TRUE!), this is the class for you.

Comment:
He teaches doctrine according to McConkie. Although he does give great explanations on some tricky doctrine, he spends too much time on things that don't even matter and are his own opinion. He is very condescending to students. Studying for the tests doesn't help because you have to be able to read his mind. Prepare to be annoyed and furstrated
