Comment:
Prof Alcarria is a nice guy who's willing to work with his students, but during lectures he calls on random students without allowing them time to think about the answer which could be really embarrassing. He grades harshly on participation. Tons of hw and doesn't respond to emails. I don't recommend taking this class if you're a beginner.

He does care about his students; however, he doesn't give you enough time to think about the answer and process in class, so you have to do a lot of preparation for class by reading ahead and knowing what he's going to talk about. ESPECIALLY for the grammar chapters. Class is STRICTLY by the textbook, so if you didn't read you'll be lost or bored.

He really does care about his students. You get unlimited chances on the online homework. The tests are way easier than the homework. He gives a lot of partial credit. You have a few TalkAbroad's that aren't too bad. He rounded my grade to an A. You get 5 free absences, but half of the time he forgot to mark me as absent. He is pretty funny too.

I took this class as an online Spanish 1 class. Juan was a good professor, he gives lots of homework through Connect though, and it's due daily. He does 3 10-minute TalkAbroads with clear discussion criteria, 2 Webex interviews with him, and 3 tests. Speaking is 40% of grade which stinks but he is lenient in grading. He will sometimes give quizzes.

Since it is a language class, participation is mandatory. Dr. Alcarria is very accommodating and teaches well. Was my first Spanish class in over ten years and I received an A. Quite an easy class and a great professor. Would recommend to all.

Dr. Alcarria is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. Compassionate, understanding, and gives back great feedback. Did I mention I had him for an online class? Dr. Alcarria is one of the most easily accessible professors I've had and without a doubt one of the best professors Georgia College has to offer. Amazing professor.

I'm in his online Spanish 1 class right now, and he has not emailed me back once after I sent him multiple emails. Dates on the syllabus are completely wrong so you never know what's going on, and the TalkAbroad sessions are really intense and stressful. Took this class because I thought it would be easy, but I was wrong.

Professor Alcarria is a great professor and you can tell he enjoys teaching italian. I took both 1001 and 1002 with him and have gotten A's both times. There is a lot of homework, but he offers a great amount of extra credit and gives you the benefit of the doubt when you need help.

lenient grader most of the time; all homework is online and tests are online but taken in the language lab on campus. we did two talk abroad chats where we had to video chat with someone in another country and speak completely in Spanish. It was difficult but he was understanding in his grading. would take again

Professor Alcarria is definitely one of the sweetest professors I've had in college. He is very understanding and tries to work with all of his students. He does assign a lot of homework, but as long as you keep up with it and go to class, you will be fine. Tests are all computer generated and fairly easy. I recommend taking him for Spanish.

Don't bother emailing him or asking for help after class because he won't help you. He'll leave you paranoid and overly stressed because of this. Also, he assigns way too much homework. Would not recommend his class if you're taking mostly academic classes during the semester. Class involves upkeep X 10. No extra credit.

Participation in class is a must for a good grade since it is a language course. There is homework practically every other day, but it is really manageable. The book is a MUST HAVE since the online code is the only way you can do your homework. Pretty sure there are only three tests not incuding the final exam. No quizzes. Super interactive.

I took this class because I was interested in Italian. Not anymore. I don't know where anyone gets the idea that he's helpful, I asked once when he was going to teach us sentence structure and he unformed me it was not his job. He had us retake tests at least twice, usually over things he had not explained in class. He's useless.

He is such a nice guy! He is very brilliant and definitely knows what he's talking about, but get prepared to do a lot of studying. If you do the work and study the text and truly know what you're doing, then you can get an A, or at least, a B. There's a good amount of homework, but the tests aren't bad if you study. I should be getting an A.

I had a 4.0 before I took Alcarria for Spanish 2. He literally reads straight from the textbook, word for word. I went to his office hours to clarify what was needed for the exam. Multiple times he told me to study things that were not on the exam, and told me NOT to study things that were on the exam. HeĆ¢€™s nice but not a decent teacher.

One of my favorite professors. I understand why people struggle with the thick Spain/Castellano accent, but they should visit the lang lab where the are tutors! He's really helpful IF you ask questions. Loves talking to students. Late/disorganized at times, but he's so sweet that you get over it. I even went to Spain for study abroad with him!
