Comment:

This class was not easy, but I took Prof. Zeng's class during the 2-year grad program in PLSC (graduating in 2011). After taking this class Prof. Zeng also supervised two independent studies for me. I cannot emphasize enough how supportive she was and how impressive she is as an academic. She is so passionate about her work and knowledgeable.

Comment:

Not gonna lie. She can be a very challenging professor. That is because she is extremely knowledgeable about her field and that there is just always so much that goes into the topics she teaches. There's a lot, LOT of notes. But if you are in college to, I don't know, actually become a professional yourself - she is a tremendously valuable asset.

Comment:

She never entered a single grade for me on blackboard- even emailing about it. Sure, she passes back work with grades on them, but it would be nice to be able to log into blackboard to see your total grade, rather than having to calculate it yourself. I had to wait until grades were posted to my transcript to see my final grade.

Comment:

Lectures are very long, she knows what she is talking about but can be confusing at times the way she explains certain topics. Only 2 tests and 2 papers so they are worth a lot of points. Read the pages she assigns from the books and you will understand what she was trying to say in class.

grades pretty easily but it's really hard to take notes in class and the essay-based midterm/final are what really get me. she gives you a really detailed study guide and then the essays are on a different topic, which most of the class didn't study because the questions came out of right field

On here Dr. Zeng is criticized for her accent and unorganization. She must have read those posts because she is extremely organized in class. She holds notes she goes off of to follow the powerpoints. He accent is FINE. Don't think it will be a problem. She has trouble with a word or two but just ask. She will work with you as well on due dates too

Not an easy A, but definitely an easier A than some. If you just read a bit, show up to class, and maybe have some prior knowledge from other classes, you won't be sweating this one at all. Liked her a lot as a professor, the rating doesn't do justice.

I was dreading taking this class because I had VERY minimal knowledge of East Asia, but I ended up really liking it! Zeng made excellent power points, good assignments, doesn't grade hard, helpful, nice and her english you can clearly understand. Go to class so you know what's on tests, they're written. I legitimately learned a lot.

Love Dr. Zeng. She makes you work for your grade, but it's worth it. She also is not difficult to understand... not sure why everybody is complaining about that. Her class also isn't boring. She's one of those people who can say 2 sentences and you realize she knows unbelievable amounts. Have taken 3 classes with her, would take more.

I don't know what some people are saying here. Yeah, she can be monotonous, no doubt but if you can't understand her English then something is wrong with you and you have much more to worry about in life. Tough tests but she tells you what she wants, specifically. Very knowledgeable, very kind and willing to work with you. I'd take her again!

This class is boring and uninteresting. There are two tests throughout the year leaving a large amount of material that could possibly be on each test. Study guides are unhelpful. Worst PLSC class I have taken at the U of A.

English is broken. Ex: "Peoples" instead of "person". Very very boring, take home exams..first one was rather difficult, but not the second two. Don't know how she grades because she never hands anything back. Overall, I wouldn't recommend the class because it's just so boring. Make sure you have something else to do to stay awake!!

The tests turned out to be a lot less stressful than I originally thought. Her English is fine, if you cannot understand her you need to have your ears checked. She does alot of lecturing that is kinda boring if you aren't interested in the subject but overall I think she does a good job discussing the topics at hand. I would recommend her. Plus she's pretty cute too...

Her English is perfectly understandable. Tests are kind of difficult, but just go to class and keep up with the readings. Overall, she's very helpful and really knows her stuff. Interesting class, you'll learn a lot.
