Comment:
As a diligent student who likes to earn his grades, I must complain that Professor O'Dwyer is the worst I have ever come across. The drop rate is very large, he doesn't captivate students, is very unreasonable, and turns little mistakes on reports into large ones. Most of the Hofstra upperclassmen agree with me on this one. You will be let down.

Absolutely amazing professor. In high school I struggled tremendously w/ physics so going into this class I was pretty nervous. He's very picky but once you know what's expected its easy to do well. Like any science class, if you do the hw and practice problems prior to the exams you'll get an A. Expect to work hard. Overall a rewarding class

Some people may not like him & think he's hard. But he is ok & fair. Do the homework and do the hang out problem. You'll do fine. Final has 2 cumulative questions. These 2 questions are only from the past tests.

This is an awful professor. He's very nasty to his students and has no compassion for them whatsoever. I recommend you that you switch out if you have him.

This is one of the most frustrating professors i've ever had. Very picky when grading tests. Very condescending when students ask questions. Writes in cursive and flies through the material. His class if definitely possible to get an A in, but be prepared to work.

By far the best professor I have taken while at Nassau. He will give you as much help as you need and he is a very reasonable professor when it comes to grading. The labs are very important so set aside at least eight hours each week to get it done. If you are planing on transfering as and enginner or a physcist his classes are a must.

Most likely in the same class as the posting below, I would have to agree. If you are planning on continuing in upper level science related coursework, NOT taking a class with him would be a big mistake. His notes are more useful than the text, and be prepared to learn some pretty useful as-a-matter-of-facts. Ease=1 due only to nature of course.

The absolute best teacher at NCC for physics. Brilliant professor that loves his job. Hard to understand at first but need to get used to it. Failed physics in high school and turned around and loved it because of Odwyer. He demands alot because physics is not an easy subject. Rereading notes and redoing quizzes are key to passing his class.

The guy is too smart...I had him for physics 101..its a bit ironic, a guy with a Ph.D in nuclear physics teaching a beginner course..he definitely knows his stuff, and will help you get through..though the drop rate is astronomical: 26 beginning, 8, with me, at the end..idk how but i managed to passed...dont get him unless u love physics

Knows physics very well, teaches off the top of his head, low on textbook use. Do his labs EXACTLY as he wants them to avoid having points taken off for b.s. reasons. Go to EACH class and write down everything he puts on the board. If he gives the option, try to avoid doing the homeworks, for summer session you do not have to do them. Ask questions

O'Dwyer definitely knows his stuff. Extremely unreasonable man, I made the mistake of doing all of my work for an exam on the scrap paper that he gave us instead of in the blue book. When i turned in the exam, he told me I had 4 minutes to write 6 pages of problems into the blue book. I got a 62, when I should have had a 95

Awesome teacher! Had him for physics lab at Hofstra, and it was an easy A, although a lot of people struggled. Do the labs as he wants them, and check with him before turning in, and then every other lab after that is quick and takes a little time to do! Highly recommend!!

I think he is an excellent teacher. He's very patient and caring. He has no problem explaining things to you over and over again. I highly recommend him. He's really fair, no suprises. He tells you in the beginning of the semester exactly how he grades, how he wants the labs. If you listen to him you're bound to get an A

hes mad smart. has trouble dumming stuff down a bit. HW a bit hard, labs not that bad just long write up. test's not as bad as one would think. try to do his quizes without your book if you can, best way to pass his class. study hard.

I LOVED PHYSICS TILL I CAME IN HIS CLASS! He puts questions on the tests that he only went over ONCE! And the homework and labs are SO demanding. DO NOT take this guy... I took three years of physics in high school, and IM struggling. Most of the class is failing and he doesn't even question when the entire class got a question wrong on the test
