Great Teacher. The class required a lot of work outside of lecture but the work pays off. Her recitations often give similar problems to ones on the test.

Highly recommend. Dr. Brummond is THE best teacher for a terrified college student preparing to take on organic chemistry. She makes exam material clear, and is fair with grading. I'd go as far to say that she puts the most effort into teaching I've seen so far.

Ochem is hard but she really does care about her students understanding of the material. Exams are extremely fair, do the homework problems and review recitation problems. Most profesors for ochem are impossible but with Brummond you actually get what you put into it

Kay is a wonderful professor for organic synthesis. This is a combined grad/undergrad class so the pace is fast. Tests are very straight forward, and the material is right out of the book. Great class if you are looking to expand your knowledge of organic synthesis!

I don't know why there are so many negative comments about prof brummond, I really liked her. Of course her class was extremely difficult and time-consuming, but you've got to expect that with ochem. She was very friendly, energetic, and helpful.

I have mixed feelings about Dr. B. She had a positive attitude that made class bearable, plus her exams weren't devastating. Reviewing old exams and recitation problems is a must. I found class notes mediocre but the book helpful for study. She does no statistics on her tests, so she can't know if a test or question is unfair. Not bad but not great

Organic is going to punish you no matter who you have. Thankfully, Dr. Brummond was a great lecturer whose attitude made the class a lot less daunting. She made it clear what material was important, and made every lecture and recitation worthwhile. Highly recommended!

dr brummond makes class interesting. she always has a smile on her face and its nice to laugh and smile in a hard class like ochem. exams arent bad, and she is available for help during office hours. obviously its a lot of work, but theres no greater feeling than when you see that all of your hard work paid off.

Notes are useless and impossible to study from. I've read EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER we've covered from the book to try to understand the info. Never missed a lecture -still getting a bad grade. Went to office hours for help on how to study, told to "spend more time doing practice problems". Had to go to another prof who gave helpful tips.

If you want to do well in O chem 1, she is definitely the best professor to take. Test are fair if you study old test and recitation problem. I also recommend doing the problems she assigns for the book. Homework isn't mandatory and she drops your lowest test. I'm still in this class right now, but I expect to get an A.

It's a lot of work just like any section, but her tests are not bad. Acing one of these guys is well within the range of possibility. If you're worried about OchemI start reading now and take her. She bases everything out of the book and tells you what to look at. I got an A by doing a little everyday. Practice tests are money. Get it done

Dr. Brummond is an synthetic organic chemist which explains alot. She loves to concentrate on reactions and the capabilities of molecules which is the key to her tests. Study the notes before class and study really hard for the tests and you'll do fine. She is really actually very funny. You'll love her.

Kay Brummond is the best prof. to take for ochem at Pitt if you want to understand the material and do well in the class. She teaches from the book which is helpful and takes test problems from old exams. She is a clear lecturer, although sometimes she can fly through material. But I love her! Take Kay Brummond if you want an A in ochem!

I was also nervous going into this class but she was an excellent lecturer. Pay extra attention to her class/recitation examples and old exam questions because you'll see them on exams. Tests were very fair. Overall a good pick for ochem 1.

Such a great professor. As was said below, maybe she had a revelation or something, but she is a fantastic organic chemistry teacher. She makes the subject very interesting. Don't listen to the first 45 ratings she was given because they aren't true.

GREAT PROFESSOR. I was scared when I saw everyone elses ratings but I LOVE her. She is a great lecturer and makes OChem easy to understand. Alot of her exams are problems from old exams/homework problems. It is definitely possible to get A's on her tests though!! She is MUCH easier than other OChem professors and I HIGHLY recommend her!!

The previous comments are either really unfair and/or she significantly changed her teaching style since then. She is a clear lecturer, she's very helpful in office hours, and her exams accurately reflect lecture. Plus, she's ALWAYS smiling. =) All around great prof!

Although this is a very hard class to begin with, she really didn't make it any easier. Key to this class is consistency & repetition, and you don't get much of that from her. She has somewhat of a surfer girl accent that can become annoying, but then again in OChem anything can do that. Go to office hours and ask as much as you can about exam Q's.

At the beginning I thought her class was impossible. I cried from stress, and still did bad on the exams. The key is to go to office hours and ask her questions about practice exams. Her class is not that bad. Ochem is difficult, and almost impossible to master w/ procrastination and lazyiness.
