Expect a lot of reading, and writing, however, the course is well structured and you come out with a lot of understanding and knowledge of the subject area. Feed back is great Midterm and final is a grueling 4 -6 hours of essays. I would take this class again.

Very hard class. Bring tape recorder, read before class, attendance is very important, take serious notes, go over notes before & after class, chapter reviews due every week, term paper at end of term, random quizzes almost every class. You have to be a well disciplined person to pass his class. If you value your GPA and can do this then take him.

Dr. Turner's class requires a lot of hard work and dedication if you want anything above a B. Go to class, study, and set up office hours. If you have questions talk with Dr. Turner or his Graduate assistants. They all are knowledgable and helpful. Grades are earned in this class, not given.

Dr. Turner should not be allowed to teach undergrad because he is to busy for his students and expects you to take in too much information at one time. He grades his undergrad students as if they were grad students and he doesn't even grade the tests, he lets the grad students grade them. only a small percent ever pass his class.DON'T TAKE HIM!!!

Hardest class you will ever take. Essay pop quizzes after almost every class. 5 page chapter summaries due every week (and only a few of them are graded), a term paper, and hard exams with no study guide. First test had 5 essay questions and 50 multiple choice questions. You must study EVERYTHING. He is very interesting, prepare for a tough class

Has anyone in the administration of the Criminal Justice Department actually sat in on one of his classes??? THEY NEED TO... He favors people that think, speak, act, and look like him. He wants you to answer questions in a bubble that he creates that has nothing to do with the real world. CJUS DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO GO TO ONE OF HIS CLASSES

Turner is not teaching, he is talking just to hear himself speak. If he wanted to teach then he would be more interested in making sure his students learned rather than talking non-stop for almost 2 hours twice a week. Shame on him for not being a better teacher!

Dr. Turner lives up to his reputation. He is the hardest teacher in the Criminology major and enjoys making students suffer. Every Tuesday you have a 3 page chapter outline due. No studyguide for tests and no warning about what essays are on it. Attendance is mandatory. He knows Criminology and he's funny but he grades unecessarily hard.

Comment:
Dr. Turner is the worst professor at the University of Memphis. He treats his students as if we are a bunch of ignorant people who should just follow his exact demands because he is so superior to everyone else. He is unapproachable, condescending, and needs to get over himself and realize how to respect others.

This man needs to be fired, or at least, regulated. He is a complete jerk. I am not even talking about the syllabus and work load. I mean that he is rude and pompous and treats people like crap. And, I should add, he is no where near as smart as he thinks he is. He has a serious problem with enunciating, and needs a dictionary. He's an idiot.

Dr. Turner is a tough professor but he is not as bad as people make him out to be. Study and go to class. Make sure you do all chapter reviews. If you do those three things you will pass. I'm not saying you will get an A but passing is possible. Once again study EVERYTHING. He doesn't tell you what your essays will be about. STUDY!

Took him for criminology. Made a B. He's hard but fair and a very good instructor. He's got a hot body and some seriously nice buns which can be distracting. He is the alpha-male and knows it. He's smart and serious about criminology. Do the work-you'll be okay. He comes across very rigid but he softens. I have much respect for this man.

I took Dr. Turner this past fall. His class was very hard, however, no one can say they didn't learn anything. And despite what someone said about him failing athletes, there is no exception. He will fail you if you fail the class. He does not give grades, extra credit, or likely points. You get what you earn. Hard but fair. Wait til 2nd test.

Okay...I just got done taking Dr. Turner this semester and yes he is strict and the material is time consuming but at least you learn something in his class. He treats you like a professional and expects to be treated the same way...he's strict but not unfair.

I'm going to play Dr. Turner's devil's advocate here since not many people at school like him. He's very tough, yes, but he's just trying to prepare you for the real world. I appreciate that. Not everything can be fun and games. Try talking to him outside of class, he'll surprise you. He is actually human.
