Comment:

Willmott walks the walk and talks the talk, he has experience in the industry to back up all of his lectures and speaks from a place of passion. His lectures tend toward the heart-to-heart and casual side. Show up and put in some real effort-- you'll pass easily. 314 is not a lighthearted class, though. Be prepared for heavy stuff.

He's a great teacher. Screenwriting is not my forte and he'll push you like he did me if you slack off in the slightest. He shows films and frequently lets you out early even though the class is only once a week. Funny dude but he knows his stuff. Show up, listen, learn, and start early on your script cause it has to be 25 pages last time I checked

Great class if you are or are not a film major. You watch movies for most of the class period and you never have to participate bc some try hard film student is going to for you. The only part you need to watch out for is the discussion section. It's led by a GTA and sometimes they do quiz from the book or movie. Would not advise skipping movie

Comment:

Really knowledgeable, approachable, and funny. Lectures are good and we often were let out of class early. Only complaint is that we got very little direction on what was expected for the final project until it was nearly due. Final projects are big but fun to work on. Lenient grader.

This was my third time taking a class from Willmott. It wasn't as great as the first two classes, but he is still a great instructor. He works in the industry, so he knows his stuff. The biggest issue is that the class is pretty unorganized and the syllabus was not clear. Still, I would definitely take more classes from him.

This class was awesome! The discussions are great and the professor knows his stuff! I really enjoyed the topics. There were 23 papers and they were fairly long, but easy topics. Attendance is required (sign-in sheet), plus you're watching movies so I would definitely GO! The TA this semester was great!!

He's an active director and is very good at leading discussions. If you're into films, you'll probably enjoy this class. I'm a film major and thought that the majority was a little easy, but still a lot of fun, and he really made the class great.

Professor Willmott made learning and going to class fun and enjoyable. This was a class that I looked forward to every week (History of African-American Images in Film.) He is an amazing speaker and is always willing to speak with students. He even helped me out in making a major career decision. Highly recommend!

Kevin Willmott is an awesome professor! He really knows what he is talking about and he makes lectures interesting, plus I found the class to be really easy! He picked out great films to watch and made the class fun, while helping me learn a lot!

Okay professor. If you're a film major, this course is required, but honestly this class wasn't that great. If you're not a film major it would steer you away from it because all films are out-dated and the ones that are shown seem to have no importance artistically. They focus on camera techniques instead of story telling. Exams and essays are ok.

Don't take this class unless you are very interested in becoming a film major. The movies we watched were pretty boring and dated and attendance dropped pretty quickly. You won't be watching transformers or whatever, more like black and white silent films. Willmott is a cool guy but this class rides on how lucky you get with your discussion leader

LITERALLY WORST CLASS EVER!!!!!!! T/F test was wayyyyy harder than anticipated and reading the book was required. I was taking this class as an elective for my business major this class is SO DUMB!!! DO NOT TAKE. Great professor but no thanks.

The best class I've taken at KU so far. They don't offer it every semester, so if you get the chance - TAKE IT! Dr. Willmott is a nice professor, very understanding, and is very passionate about what he teaches. Reading was medium, but very interesting. I would definitely take a class from him again.

I have taken two different classes with him, he is a fun teacher, very interesting. Exams aren't too difficult as long as you pay attention. Books are required, but I hardly did any reading and still did great in the class. FMS 100 and FMS 314

He's a good professor, and he really knows what he's talking about. His lectures are interesting, and he chose good films to watch in class and as outside assignments. My only complaint about him is that he's really difficult to get ahold of. He'll normally answer emails, but he has no Blackboard site for his classes and no dates on his syllabus.
