ECON 250D (and all the other Honours courses) is hard, Licun Xue has a thick Chinese but I have rarely seen anyone as nice as him! Always a smile, very caring and worried about you understanding the material and his lecture. He will stay more than one hour after class to explain the material if it was unclear.

After taking second-semester courses, I gave him a 5.... His exams are absolutely predictable just be sure you can handle all the problem sets and past finals.. (You can find them all easily on coursehero) Our class average was around 80- pretty high compare to ECON257.....

Basically a terrible lecturer, he has a very heavy accent which can make him difficult to understand especially in a large class while using a mic. The problem sets are tough, but you're only marked on doing them rather than your answers. If you study the problem sets and sample midterms and finals you can do very well in this class.

Licun's a great prof. His accent is heavy, but if you focus in class, you'll learn to understand him. Hated him at first but grew to love him. His problem sets are the hardest thing ever, but they prepare you really well for exams. The course is the hardest in the major, but Licun makes you work so you actually LEARN. That's why we're in university

Comment:
Prof. Xue is a really nice person, but not a good lecturer. He does not adequately explain the material, which is very difficult. He writes the problem sets himself and they clearly correlate to the material on the midterm and final exam. If you have an extremely strong math/Calculus background you will do well, if not, I do not recommend.

Really bad teaching of elementary principles. I would have loved it if I didn't have to re-do everything by myself. The assignments are way harder than what we see in class (for those who go to class because we all got that it was not worth it) but useful.

There is a language barrier that will take time for you to get over. His slides weren't as helpful as the textbooks. You might need both depending on what topic you are doing. The classes a lot clearer if you have taken MATH 222, which isn't even a co-requisite for the course. The final was brutal. Expect to put in a lot of work and time

Comment:
ECON250D1 requires a basic understanding of many concepts taught in MATH222 (Calc 3) including partial derivatives, lagrangian functions, differentiation with indirect dependencies, and constrained/unconstrained optimization problems. I highly suggest future ECON250 students get the Perloff book, and teach yourself the course through the book.

Comment:
Extremely difficult class, microeconomics is a very dry subject. The professor's reasoning is very hard to follow. Problem sets are way harder than the theory taught in class. Must be 100% dedicated to take honors econ. This year the midterm was fair, but the final insanely difficult. He is fairly helpful during office hours.

Nice guy, kinda boring but tries to explain things as best he can. Pretty willing to help if you ask. Doesn't mess around with his exams, if you get the material and can do the problem sets, you'll be fine.

His explanations are very bad. His slides are useless. Everything is very general, but the problem sets are all application questions. Kind of hard see the application when the theory is so general. Useless. Used the textbook and understood WAY more with it than with him.

He's a great professor and will really help you if you go to his office hours. Midterms and Finals were fair, and an A is obtainable as long as you spend a lot of time on his problem sets.

The class is very dull, but if you like game theory, his classes are fine. Midterm was hard. Chooses materials that wasn't "expected". Very helpful though. GO to his office hours and everything will click. No matter how many times you need him to explain it he will do it. Eventually, you'll click too. A very fair final. Good Prof overall

Xue is a very friendly and cheerful guy. His accent does get in the way of class sometimes, but he's a fair grader and his exams are mostly math based, rather than theory. He's a sweet man who knows what he's talking about. Be sure to take him for game theory.

Worst professor in the history of teaching. Plain and Simple. DO NOT TAKE THE HONOURS PROGRAM! EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU'RE SMART ENOUGH!
