Comment:
Oh man, what an erudite, funny dude. I wish Lessig would just teach every single class in the department. Even though he's swamped with work as department chair, he leaves his door open and is always willing to talk about class work, politics, life, etc. His lectures are incredibly valuable since he knows so much about literary/cultural history.

Comment:
Too much stress for an intro to poetry class. Class is mainly analyzing poems but the midterm is on vocab and applying the vocab to poems. Grade is based on 3 papers, midterm, and class participation. Lecture is boring and frustrating. Can only miss 3 classes. Lessig is a generally good guy and not a tough grader, but he makes you work for your grade.

Do yourself a favor and do not take a class with Lessig. About 95 percent of my class got a C+ or worse on every assignment. This was introduction to poetry and he acted like we were all poetry majors. Also, be prepared to stay after class every. single. time. Just don't do it, pick another class. There are definitely better options.

If you're looking for a *challenging* course that covers a wide variety of interesting literature, this course is for you. This is not an easy A. His dry humor cracked me up, but most students find class to be dull and unnecessarily difficult. If you have a class after this, plan on being late. He kept us at least 5 minutes late every single day.

He's a good teacher, just engage with the material and participate in class and he will reward you. His humor is a bit unconventional but you'll warm up to it. I strongly suggest taking a class with Lessig.

Comment:
Lessig is a professor who enjoys discussion and challenges his students. He often gives off a very subtle humor and is very sarcastic - which I loved. He can drone on about history for quite a while which is boring but once discussion begins the class is good. One formal paper, a mid-term and a final. Not too difficult at all.

Nice, sometimes funny guy - he's fun if you stimulate him (intellectually). lots of (sometimes interesting) discussion about readings. midterm and finals are essays given ahead of time - fairly easy, though he's a slightly tough grader. The class goes a lot more smoothly when people participate in discussion - makes it more fun. I say take him.

Very analytical guy. Hot in a George Cluney/ Dave Mathews way. Nice guy, great guy, talks really fast and lectures a lot. Not too much work, but he grades a little hard. Not sure that I would take him again.

Not a big fan of him, not because he wrote me up, but just didn't like how he taught the course. I wasn't really interested wit hhis boring lectures, but the midterm was easy - I never read & still got an 89 on it.

I don't know why so many people dislike Matt - he's intelligent and he's so funny! Listen to him intently, and you will get his sly, under the breath humor! I'm an English major and I appreciate his views and his interest in our views. I recommend him to anyone who would be interested in an intelligent, fun professor!
