Comment:

I took Professor Pickard course online, and it was not my favorite. I understand lectures can be long but sometimes he would go off on other things instead of solving the problem all the way through. For online classes, seeing that his videos were 45+ minutes long deterred me from watching them when I could watch a similar video that's 5 minutes

Comment:

Prof. Pickard is a very sweet guy with a lot of care and respect for his students. He prepares his notes before class which makes them VERY clear, and he's always willing to help outside of class. The structure of this course and the material that it covers is not too demanding and is do-able, even if you have a fair amount on your plate already.

Comment:

Pickard lectures a majority of class, and he writes paragraphs on the board explaining what he is teaching. It was really hard to understand the material because he shows you how to do the work but does not break it down. you actually end up learning more when you to the HW, so it feels like you are teaching yourself. Ended up dropping the class.

If you know how to do stats take pickard and if you do not have any experience with stats do not take Pickards Math 160 class. I repeat do not take it!!!! It will be the worst mistake you ever make if you come in with no experience in stats.

Comment:

Professor Pickard made statistics engaging and clear. As a non-math person, he walked me through everything I didn't understand and worked to communicate with each student individually. His class was repetitive and regimented, however homework is not mandatory (though it does help a lot). Overall, a great class!

He really is a great professor, always there for you and incredibly patient. The lectures are a little dull and he doesn't have a lot of different ways of explaining but he is very patient and will be helpful. Great professor, extremely caring.

Comment:

Pickard is an amazing human being. He is the most patient professor and is so open to visits during office hours and is unbelievably accommodating. He is clear but his class can be a little dull, and he doesn't mix up his way of explaining things. Tests are really hard. But he is fair and understanding, extraordinarily kind, and very helpful.

I absolutely love Pickard. He's extremely helpful and easy to understand. he goes over the material very thoroughly, so though attendance isn't mandatory, I highly recommend going. He is very picky about how you word answers on tests and quizzes though, so be careful about that and get hints from people that have already taken it.

EXTREMELY CLEAR, dull, but clear. Doesn't require you to turn in the homework, but it is a good idea to stay on track, he stays on a strict schedule with quizes and exams and is somewhat of a stickler for the wording of your answers but otherwise is fair and patient, always available to help during his office hours.

I loved Pickard! TAKE HIS CLASS!! He was extremely clear in his teaching making the material easy to understand. Homework is not mandatory, but I would recommend doing it. His tests are based on the notes he gives during class, and if you pay attention you will do fine. Overall, he is a fair grader and is willing to help students.

I really liked his class. He doesn't collect homework but you should do it. He is a hard grader on tests and quizzes but gives you everything you need to know beforehand. His notes are great and he doesn't waste your time on filler material. He is also super helpful if you have any questions.

This class says it is calculus for the business, behavioral and social sciences but that is not the focus. In fact, the calculus is rarely applied to any of those topics. Pickard is really dry in class and as long as you can do the homework you don't need to go to class. He uses a dumb program that makes passing some homework assignments impossible

I seriously love Professor Pickard. He's so passionate about what he is teaching, even though it is difficult material for students who just want to get rid of the core. He is a tough grader, this is true, but you definitely will improve your scores if you follow his instructions.

I think Matt is a great teacher! Even though i already took AP stat in hs i really like this course adn the way he teaches it makes it very easy to follow! extremly approachable teacher and very friendly!

Comment:

Pickard is very knowledgeable about all math and has a passion for the subject. It made me sad that I was not a math major. That said, he teaches a very thorough statistics class and I often found myself putting in a fair amount of work for a good grade. He is a stringent grader on tests and quizzes and will expect in depth answers.

Pickard is a very clear, kind, and reasonable professor. He writes out all problems and gives very understandable notes on the board. While he can be a picky grader, he definitely prepares you for it with the homework. Homework isn't graded or checked but do it because that is the key to success. Really liked his class.

I like Professor Pickard, I really do. He's a nice guy. He'll help you if you ask. However, (and this is a big however) he is quite possibly the toughest grader I have ever experienced. He extremely anal about test answers. Missing class in not good, because he goes through the book really fast.
