Comment:
It was the first intersession class he'd ever taught, and the pace was super quick. However, he made it as easy as possible for us to do well. A funny, inspiring lecturer as well as a bit of a hard marker. You definitely have to show up to every class and do all the reading if you want to pass. Would recommend you take him for this course.

Pappas is a good prof if you're an attentive student with initiative on projects, if not, good luck. You won't get specific criteria if you don't ask.

First of all, his syllabus is disorganised. The deadlines and other important things are not listed clearly. It's the same for his instructions on assignments. He doesn't give clear instructions on how to do the assignments which makes me very confused.

Panos has a lot to offer within the field of sociolinguistics. He deals primarily with grad students (MA and PhD), so I think as a default, he comes to expect a lot from students. That can be a little intimidating for undergrads; some of the instructions for assignments could've been clearer. However, course material was relevant and engaging.

One of my fav courses which wasn't easy, by any means, but if you put in a little effort and keep up with the readings (well selected, relevant ones that he provides on canvas) you will do just fine. Pappas is truly passionate about sociolinguistics, provides many anecdotes and meaningful insights throughout that supplement the course nicely.

Terrible prof. Used TopHat for the first time this semester and it seemed like no one taught him how to use it. Attend for the attendance & pop quiz. Frequently cancels office hours due to his carpal tunnel. Refuses to post lecture notes on Canvas. Assignments are all essays but easy. If Pocholo's ur TA, you can learn the course from him in off hrs

Pappas is by far the worst Professor I have had at SFU. His notes aren't clear and he whines when students don't understand his poor explanations. He tests students on things that weren't in the textbook, on assignments or in lecture as he wants to test "beyond their comprehension to see who really know it". Would NOT recommend.

Dr. Pappas is a kind man and an amazing professor. The students that disagree seem be those who aren't willing to put in the effort to get a decent grade. He wants everyone to do well, is very accessible for extra help and always willing to help students understand material in class. Arrive on time and participate in class! He rewards effort.

I get pretty bad exam anxiety and this exam based course was cake. He would show clips from The Wire (best show) was fair with grades. No written assignments, weekly clicker quizzes that were based on really short articles that took like 10 minutes to read and understand. People that say he gives a lot of assignments... welcome to university.....

Dr. Pappas is great! He is knowledgeable and helpful. I am graduating pretty soon and I ended up getting A from this class. Contents of this course are challenging, but Dr. Pappas explains them clearly. Paper was fun to write. I totally recommend this course.

The level of interest for this course was almost 0%, but it turned out that this course was the most interesting course at SFU!!! Also, I liked the way he graded. I only have two terms left at SFU and I now found my interest in writing. I can't believe a 'W' course can be a GPA booster. Take it with him :)

Laziest prof ever. Reads from his ppt which are poorly made with screenshot from wikipedia and content from other universties with inconsistent ugly background. Assignments are hardly relevant to the course and the marking is unfair from TAs. Makes horrible jokes all day to cover his bad teaching and cancels classes when he does not want to attend
