Comment:
Although Dr. Melnikov definitely knows his field of study, his teaching style definitely did not work for me. There are only 5 tests. Homework is not graded. He works problems on the white board and asks if you understood before moving on. He is an incredibly tough grader, but he does partial credit. HE ALLOWS NOTES ON EVERY TEST.

This teacher is horrible I had to drop the class due to his tough grading of tests that are not fairly weighted among the problems per test. It's also the only thing he grades. If you don't do the problems exactly how he shows in class he will fail you on tests regardless if you can solve problems correctly. Avoidat all cost or you will loose money

Hard teacher in a tough class, if you don't have a grasp on the material prepare to be reading and teaching yourself because everything is elementary to him and it should be to us. The homework is not graded and the test can be hard(he does allow open notes on all test including final). Would be great if he explained everything

A very smart professor and makes sure you know it. Tells you everything is "elementary" and is disappointed you dont know it. He belittles anyone who asks a question in front of the entire class. He skips steps while explaining things since we should already know those parts. If you are math major he is your teacher, if not DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

This professor is an expert in mathematics, but not at teaching it. He skips steps assuming that everyone should know, and then insults the class for asking questions. Exams are the only graded items you receive, and theyre difficult. He takes off random points for errors," even though you get the right answer!

This professor is very straight forward. You do not have to be great at math to pass this class, you just need to pay attention, take notes, and practice the optional homework he gives. Some people get their tests back and have below a 60, however, I always showed up and took notes. I never made below a C.

Dr. Yuri is probably one of the WORST math professors at MTSU. DO NOT believe him when he says the sample test the day before the actual test will be similar. The sample test is 10 times easier than what you'll see on actual test days. He practically expects you to know Calculus before entering the class. Expect little explanation of work.

This class is all open notes and open book. You can basically use anything except another human. He gives a review for every test that is basically just another version of your test. If you do the homework and test review you will be fine in his class. It is definitely not easy but it is not unreasonable. His has lots of office hours for questions.

He is a really smart guy and I really liked him, but if you generally aren't great with math, he isn't the professor for you. If you generally understand math, this class is pretty easy. The only grades you get are tests, and he gives you problems very close to what's on the test the day before and all tests are open book, open notes.

Your ENTIRE grade is based upon 3 exams and a cumulative Final, so UNDERSTANDING the material is imperative! DrMelnikov is a brilliant professor, and he will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know for the exams during class. I highly recommend that you take A LOT of notes, and don't miss class. Sharpen your algebra, trig, and calc skills prior.

Don't take him if you're not ready to work hard. Homework is optional, but DO IT or you'll have trouble passing. He's intimidating but ask questions anyways-- he knows his stuff. He's more than willing to help out and gives sample tests before the day of the real tests that show all the types of problems on the tests (open booknotes tests too).

I took Dr. Melnikov for Calculus II. Yes he has an accent but it is not that bad. He is brilliant and he expects his students to work hard and to have a strong understanding in pre-cal and calc I. If you want to really follow along with him and understand him in class keep your book open and ask questions. He has open bookopen notes exams.

He is Ukrainian, but not difficult to understand. The day before the test, he goes over what's going to be on the test. If you follow those problems, you'll do well on the test, which is open notes. Although, we started the year with 30 students and 10 dropped out per exam, I had no problem in this class. If you don't mind studying, take him.

Tells you almost exactly what will be on the tests the day before the tests. Tests are really easy and very short and straight forward. Covers common questions in class so doing homework isn't necessary in order to get an A. Easy class. Good teacher

Do the assignements he gives you, and go to the math lab and attend class 100% of the time. you will pass, but it is hard. and he thinks all americans are dumb!!! and he will tell you that many times during the class.

This guy is a great teacher. He is easy to understand even with the accent. He is not reluctant to answer any questions unless they are stupid ones which most of them are. His tests are open book/note and he gives out practice exams very similar to the test. If you cant pass this guy and learn something at the same time something is wrong.

Overall not one of my favorite teachers. I definitely got a "stupid Americans" vibe from him. Also, rather than doing a good job of explaining before assigning homework he spends most of the class going over the homework from the day before, leaving minimal time for explanation. His attitude does not promote asking questions.

Often he will berate the class for being American and lacking a deeper understanding of mathematics. He's correct! You will learn a great deal in his class if you pay attention and do the work. Do not get become discouraged when he makes fun of you for not knowing the Quad formula. But one of the better calculus courses; tests are open note/book.
