By far one of the worst "professors" I have ever had. I get for me it was online but he literally makes us read 16 chpts, about 5-10 hours a day from the textbook, do several homeworks, quizzes that are 20 Qs in 9 minutes & the midterm and final are 50 Qs in 25min and worth 60% of your grade. I got a better grade in Chemistry if that says anything.

He was more into teaching in other classes, but recently, he's just gone downhill. It's as if he doesn't care anymore about teaching, which is hurting students. (Not just grades, our learning). I don't recommend taking this course until someone else teaches it or until he likes teaching again. Extremely disappointed. Would not take his class again.

The tests are HARD. You better study for weeks for each test because the three tests are 80% of your grade. The lectures are okay, but it is often hard to see how they relate to what we are learning. Dr. C is a great guy and he cares about students, but the class is just generally difficult.

Dr. Collings is easily one of my favorite professors at SUNY Cortland. I'm currently in research methods and while this is known to be a tough course, if you participate and ask for help outside of class, he will respond respectfully and explain anything as many times as needed so that you understand the material. Take PSY301 with him!

Raymond Collings is the most caring professor I have ever had at SUNY Cortland. His exams are a good mixture between lecture and the textbook. There are mandatory outlines on each chapter due. His lectures expand on the textbook but are very informative. Participation is important to achieve a good grade but he encourages even the smallest amount.

I struggled so hard with Cognitive psych, and I'm not sure why. I took research methods with Collings and got an A, but I barely got a B in Cog. The tests are very tricky even if you don't miss class. I would recommend making the outlines really detailed because it can only help you in the long run! Collings is nice and helpful.

Very nice person, trying to answer his questions as many as possible will help you understand more and keep up the classes easily. Once you understand it, you almost don't need to prepare for the exams. Outlines are important, spending more time on doing the outlines is very helpful, and can save you time on preparing the exams. Challenging!!

Really great professor, outlines due for every chapter but they can be as long or as short as you want. He's very big on participation so if you raise your hand a lot during class you'll be fine! He also always gives extra credit. if you read the textbook throughly you'll do fine in the class

Research methods is better with Collings than Berzonsky, but he isn't an easy prof. He offers some extra credit and participation points so help make up for test grades, but the tests are really hard. Go to class even though attendance isn't mandatory!

This is Collings FAVORITE class to teach and it is definitely one that will stay with me throughout my undergrad. Hes passionate about it which makes you want to be there. His tests aren't easy but he is so so helpful if you ask him for it. Best teacher I've had at Cstate!

I took this class twice with Collings. He is by far one of the most helpful teachers if you go to him and ask or even asking in class. He will help you in anyway possible because he wants you to succeed but he also wants you to actually learn what you're doing because you'll need it for later classes. Use the textbook practice questions. Theyre key

Dr. Collings is an excellent professor. Yes, his tests ARE hard. That's because the class material can be difficult. You need to read the book& go to class! However, he puts a lot of effort into keeping students involved in lectures, and is always willing to offer help. He gives extra credit. He's flexible with the class, & a clear grader.

Collings is dreadfully boring. Your only grades are outlines and tests. Even the students who showed up everyday and took extensive notes got D's and C's. If you don't have to, don't take this class.

He is a nice guy. His class is solely based on participation. The only assignments are outlines for every chapter. He glances at your outline and you get an automatic 100. The tests are long and difficult. 5 chapters for each exam. 3 total exams. Must know everything you learned from book, class, and Ted talks. Make sure you pass exams!

This was a very difficult class and Dr. Collings does a great job trying to explain everything. He will do anything he can to help you if you are struggling. Don't be afraid to go to his office hours or talk with him one on one. Tests are difficult you have to read the textbook. Not a good idea to miss class, you will fall behind.

Dr. Colling's exams are based from the textbook, in which outlines must be completed and from class discussions, which are held every class meeting time. He does make his students think about their developmental selves in both their present and future. Interesting material about adulthood that can be related to one's lifetime.

Class was very difficult and he does an okay job of explaining hard concepts but he isn't all that helpful. Thankfully he provided a lot of opportunities to receive extra credit so I strongly recommend you do them. If you read over class slides and know all the key terms then you should do ok.

Dr. Collings is an awesome professor. Although his lectures at times can be boring, he has a good way of getting what he wants across to the students if they pay attention. His test are hard and you have to read, but I would be happy to take more classes with him.

nice guy but literally should not be allowed to teach anything. He is good at understanding, but has no presentation skills, erases the board too quickly, and uses an easle style white board for a class of 30 kids. Awful

Comment:
Doesn't give clear information on what the tests are on, rarely gives back assignments or tests, and doesn't respond to emails ever. Is a nice enough and interesting professor but doesn't seem to prepare for class, instead relies on group discussions that are off topic and have nothing to do with the book. Very unreliable.
