Prof Haslam is a great guy. But his teaching style is "unique". I have him TH, and on tue he will assign 50+ pages of reading, and on th (over the weekend) he will literally assign 125+ pages of reading. He gives these random writing assignments which are impossible. His class is unnecessarily hard, and not relative to the other eng 102 sections.

Best English teacher Ive ever had. If youre looking for an easy A this isnt your guy. If youre looking to get something extra out of what is normally a basic core class, look no further.

Be ready to read over 40 pages of literature each night. He gives surprise in class reading responses that are impossible to finish in the amount of time given. He wants you to write 12 sentences in 20 minutes. His papers are impossible to put all the information he wants in the page limit given. I would highly NOT recommend taking him

Going into the final essay, I really thought i was going to produce garbage. However, as I sat down, despite hardly reading the texts, I found myself to be so prepared just from going to class. His methods are subtle and textbooks/readings are carefully selected. If you genuinely care about your education and wish to improve. Take this professor

While he may get a bad rap, Richard Haslam is an amazing teacher. Probably the BEST english teacher I have ever had. But, be ready to work. Hes very tough on grading papers and has pop quizzes weekly so you must keep up with the readings. Overall, his class was extremely interesting and I would take him again.

Dr. Haslam is super passionate and really tries to relate to students and make class relevant to college kids. However, the class is very fast paced and he gives challenging pop quizzes. Also, participation is HUGE in his class, so get ready to constantly be sharing your thoughts out loud to the class. You have to work hard to do well.

Dr. Haslam is one of the greatest professors you can take, while he is a tough grader, he gives you ample time to set up and improve essays by letting you make an outline and rough draft which he reads and provides amazing and procise feedback. The in class writings can be challenging but if you hold an adequate understanding you will be fine.

Dr. Haslam is an all around great guy, however, his class can be quite tough. Books are read at a fast rate and it can be sometimes hard to keep up. But, he puts everything you need to be prepared for assignments on Blackboard. It's a lot of work so be prepared to "earn your grade" as he says. Not the easiest English class, but not too bad.

You read a lot of old drama and poetry, like medieval biblical plays. The speed of reading is extremely fast, a new book every other week. Very passionate about drama for some reason. Keeps track of how many times you raise your hand and comment every class.

Nice professor who is passionate about English. Give lots of feedback to help you improve. No tests--but lots of in class responses (basically pop-quizzes) on out of class readings. Get ready to read. Tough grader. Not easy course but def manageable.

Haslam is a great, passionate professor. Lots of reading, pop quizzes on the readings, which are extremely difficult. Two papers on interesting topics. One group presentation. The final was almost impossible. Haslam's choice of novels was eclectic and enjoyable. Loved how they were all connected. Overall, very intense, but learned a lot. 9/10

He is very nice, but the class is extremely hard. We read eight books in one semester. His prompts are very long and confusing. Going to office hours does help, but make sure that you make an appointment.

I loved Dr. Haslam's class. He is very helpful and understanding, but he is tough grader and gives in class responses which is an equivalent to a pop quiz. I would take him again.

Dr. Haslam's syllabus/assignments are very intimidating, however the class isn't that bad. All of the books he assigns are on sparknotes which helps (didn't read much). The prompts for his papers are confusing however he will explain the more in depth if you need help. He will raise your grade if he sees you trying. Pop quizzes are tough.

Dr. Haslam is by far one of the smartest people I know. He is really great professor and will help you out with your paper. The man really tries his best to make the class interesting by playing some kind of music clip at the beginning of each class, then talk about how it relates to the class. He also shows many funny clips in class that help out.

If you enjoy reading & writing then take him because he is very passionate and knows what he is talking about. Assigns A TON of reading for each class and gives in-class responses that are like pop quizzes. Two big papers that are tough. If you're not a good writer & won't do the reading then I don't recommend him. He knows when you use Sparknotes.

Dr. Haslam is a great and helpful professor but his class is very tough. There is a lot of reading every night and you will read 7 tough books. He gives pop quizzes on the reading so you always have to come to class but discussions are interesting. You will write 2 papers worth 50% of your grade and the final is hard but only counts for 10% of it.

Dr. Haslam is one of the most helpful professors I have ever had. He's incredibly knowledgeable and interested in the material he teaches, as well as an incredible writer - take any advice he gives you to heart! He is not easy; you have to work for your grade, but you'll leave his class knowing so much more than you knew before.

Ok Dr. Haslam is a tough teacher, but his class is manageable. There is a lot of reading and two essays, but if you do all the reading you will succeed. That allows for you to participate in class, which is important to your grade. If you work hard you can get an A, and doing so is so rewarding, trust me. Overall, he's a good teacher.
