It is well known that this class is made incredibly difficult for no reason. However if you're reading this, it is because you're trying to see what he's like- as he's the only one who teaches micro in farmingdale. If you want to pass, rely on the synoptic sheets. It's all matching on the tests, so use the definitions on the synoptic sheets.

I loved professor Elgart! He was so passionate about the material he was teaching, and truly UNDERSTOOD what he was teaching in such a way that you couldunderstand fully as well. Some students may have had issues with his old-school style of teaching (no powerpoints) but I felt it did not make a difference as long as you listened carefully in class

Comment:
Microbiology is a tough course, but Dr. Elgart makes it unreasonably difficult. The handouts he gives are illegible and are harder to understand than reading the textbook, he cannot answer a question without belittling his students, and there are only 3 exams. He does offer 5 page extra credit papers, and this is what saved my grade.

This guy is one of the worst professors Ive had in my entire collegiate career. Hes ignorant and old and will get annoyed if you ask a question! His tests are impossible, even when he gives you a synopsis of each topic he went over. No PowerPoints so get ready to take notes that have nothing to do with the exams.

Elgart is a bit unorganized but you can tell he is passionate when he talks about Microorganisms. Though if you do ask a question, don't be alarmed when he makes it seem like everything you ask is a stupid question. DO THE EXTRA CREDITS!!! Take notes in class and when i mean that, take down every word he says or else go buy the textbook.

Totally horrible professor. I'm positive no one would pass his class if it weren't for the obscene amount of extra credit he offers. Lectures are unorganized, handouts are impossible to comprehend, and review sheets don't help at all. I would say don't take this professor, but hes the only one who teaches micro at farmingdale, so you have no choice

I've taken this class twice (withdrew the first time due to failing, and received a C- the second time), and the class was not easier the second time. Do all of the 5 page extra credits he gives (that's how I passed). He also gives you a pre-req essay due before the exams, do them! Easy +4 on your exam. Memorize the synopsis sheets. Hardest class.

Hand's down, one of the worst professors at farmingale. It's 2017, no powerponit slides and he is still stuck in the past with handout sheets that make little to no sense, if you can even read them that is. His extra credit 5 pg weekly papers are tedious. He has absolutely NO ORGANIZATION in is lectures, rambles on things not exam related.

First off, he'll tell you you don't, but you need the book. Secondly his lectures are garbage, he hands out a sheet with probably 5 different diagrams on each side and they're all massed together and illegible. Third, his "weekly" extra credit isn't weekly but do them all. Finally his test are awful, he doesn't even ask things that were covered.

One of the worse professors, he does not know how to teach PERIOD! Lectures are very DISORGANIZED, no powerpoint slides and no textbook to study from, only gives out some random sheets of papers that are impossible to read. Often drifts off topics and talks about scientific findings which are not relevant to the exams.

Some Hope! Yes, this guy does give out dittos that are barely readable, you do have to memorize the review sheets & he does make you feel stupid when you ask a question. BUT he makes it interesting with his lectures (when you can hear him) and his extra credit is a lifesaver! Do ALL the extra credit and you will pass!

I took his for medical micro lab and you really have to know what's going on and take notes for the report. There's a report due every week and he will nit-pick. If you miss something, you're basically screwed. He's sarcastic, which can come off rude, but he does seem like he cares and want students to do well.

How in the world is this guy tenured? I feel like he got his degree in a cracker jack box. ok well: 1. Does not give notes or powerpoints, only teaches off sheets that you cant read. Its like heiroglyphics. 2. Gets angered when asked a question, degrades students severely. Exams are a nightmare. 3. My advice? sit in the back n try to google.

I really don't know how he has a rating over a 2. Trust me when I tell you he deserves a 0.00. I'm pretty sure he doesn't even grade the tests and arbitrarily picks out numbers. The tests are all matching columns and extremely vague. Anyone who says he isn't that bad is lying or insane. Hes intentionally rude and disrespectful to students as well.

Terrible professor. Give out the WORST handouts you can barely read and sometimes he can't even read. The only extra credit he gives is 5 page papers every 1-2 weeks.

Worst professor I've had anywhere. I don't understand how he is still a professor. He's absolutely terrible. The only reason that anyone passes is because he hands out review sheets and allows you to do extra credit. The average score on all of his tests is in the 50's and he doesn't curve . The extra credit is a minimum of 5 pages due every week.

He's disrespectful to his students, if you ask a question he gets angry. His lectures last longer than the allotted time, sometimes he goes an extra 20 minutes. He's very vague and won't describe what he wants. Yes he does give extra credit (5 page papers 5 points on each test) but if it isn't exactly what he wants you won't get points.
