He presents his students with a lot of interesting opportunities and provides a lot of super helpful career advice. I really thought he would grade more harshly than he did, but getting an A is fairly easy. The class environment was pretty relaxed and the projects were usually pretty interesting. He has a good, snarky sense of humor too.

Robert's a real gem, and out of the 3 professors I've had for advanced painting, he's been my favorite. He's versatile and really helps you advance what you want to do, rather than trying to fit you into a mold, or make you do work similar to his own. Be clear with what you like or what you want to do and he'll help SO MUCH.

Absolutely horrible professor. He's incredibly rude to everyone. Expects really advanced pieces out of a painting 1 class when most people had never painted before. Huge ego. Says he "teaches you how to teach yourself" but really just has standards and expects you to reach them without any real help from him.

He seems very uninterested during class, which makes the students uninterested. He assumes you already know what you're doing, and consequently doesn't actually teach. He constantly takes phone calls or leaves the classroom during class. On the upside, he does give good feedback during critiques and give interesting homework assignments.

2 large in class paintings and 1 at home still life painting- Be ready to be thrown into painting with no teaching before hand (though if you are like me it makes it easier to learn than being lectured). He only helps if you ask or if he sees you are struggling because he wants you to develop your own style. Great professor overall

I knew nothing about drawing prior to his class, but Sherer was helpful enough to make me really proud of my own work by the end of the semester. Lots of work, but you'll learn a lot

The worst. Does not teach anything. Leaves class. Ridicules students in group setting. Has no social skills. Rude and unhelpful. Bias. Grades due to preference, not effort/skill. Useless and horrible teacher.

Robert Sherer is one of the nicest teachers. I had a great time in his class. One of my favorite memories. He personally had lunch with me and some other students in his free time. His teaching style is great, because he encourages great artists to acheive great things and supplies tools for everybody to understand and grow.

He expects his students to already know how to do everything, or to figure it out on their own, even in the beginning class. Never explains or actually teaches anything, and likes to make fun of and insult his students. I got a good grade because I could already draw but if you're just starting out you're screwed.

He is very talented and knows what he's talking about, but he is extremely rude and arrogant. He picks favorites and if you're not one of them, then you're pretty much screwed for the rest of the semester. All hw is very time consuming, he's very sarcastic and does nothing but just talk about himself and how big of a deal he is in the art world.

I LOVE this teacher. He's a great artist and I liked the fact that he had actual confidence in his own art, or "ego" as some call it. Its definitely for slightly more advanced students, so don't expect to make a good grade if you have absolutely no drawing skill. He's funny, bold, interesting, and I would take his class again in a heartbeat.

Rumours about his ego are true. He grades based on his tastes, not technique. Dont paint anything religiously possitive, it WILL get a C. He plays major favorites, so learn how to brown nose him well. He doesnt help you or give good feedback unless he likes you. I hear he is ok in low level classes but avoid his adv classes and painting 3.

He expects you to already know what you're doing, which is lame because you're in a class to learn. He's gossipy as hell and has a huge ego, even though his own art is subpar at best. If you know how to draw or paint well and can kiss his ass, then you'll probably do fine. Otherwise, I recommend someone else.

WORST PROFESSOR ever!! Do NOT take him. His ego is way to much to handle and you have to deal with his negative comments bc he failed in life as an artist. Rude comments and negative outlook on life. Nothing you do impressive him. Such a miserable human. His grading on projects/HW he pulls from off the top of his head of what he thinks your deserve

I think he was one of my favorite teachers despite how difficult his class was. Don't expect to come in and get an A without doing some HARD WORK. Also, though the kit he offered last year was expensive its not like watercolors are perishable. If you can appreciate a challenge that will give you GREAT portfolio pieces, I suggest taking his class.

If you want to learn traditional watercolor, DO NOT take this class. There is only one project where you are required to use watercolor. Sherer will con you into spending $250 on a "kit" from Binders. If you want a good grade you must produce work that pleases him. More shocking the better. Look out for his enormous ego.

Don't expect to get an A in his class, because he doesn't hand them out like candy. If you want someone who will criticize your work and make you a better artist he is the man. He can sniff out lazy slackers and doesn't take their BS if that is what you mean by playing favs...I enjoyed having him as a teacher because it wasn't easy, it shouldn't be

If you're good at drawing with graphite and really dig realism this class is easy. You have to put aside what you like to draw and do what HE likes. So no abstract things, even if you complete the assignment correctly. If he doesn't like it you're doomed. He lets you know what he looks for so ask questions, he's a nice guy just a tough grader.
