Even if his lectures were not all that interesting, he uses books that are amazing and he makes duscussions about the very thoroughly. Very good grader although his exams are hard. Very accessible, makes you feel like family.

Professor Tarutis is an amazing teacher with a very different type of class. I think the main problem people have with him is that they go in expecting normal lectures, when it is meant to be class wide discussions. If you sit in the back of the class and dont participate, than you are going to have a bad time. Plenty of fun if you do participate.

Prof Tarutis is my favorite teacher at this school. Hes funny & loves what he teaches and it shows in his class. Hes an all around good guy who will work with you to try and get the best grade possible At first glance his paper topics will look impossible and make you want to rip out your hair but do the reading and youll see they aren't that bad.

Attendance doesn't matter in this class whatsoever just read the material he want you to read the books cost about six dollars Class is very nonchalant. And gets off-track very easily Grading consists of 2 to 3 essays and a final Very easy grade but you won't really take much away from the class He's just a free spirit that can be difficult

This class was interesting. Professor T is great at leading group discussions and tries to engage his students with modern examples. In order to do well in this class, I suggest doing all the assigned reading and taking detailed notes. Attendance is key for succeeding in this class.

Kinda interesting, but very difficult, you have to read 5 books. The tests take a lot of work to do well. I studied for hours and days, and managed to get an "A" but I'm left asking my self "was it worth it?" I only have one thing to really pass on to you, there are many other professors out there that you should take, Robert Tarutis is not one.

Professor Tarutis is great to have for Western Civilization. He is interesting to listen to, and he is very clearly interested in the subjects he teaches. He is on par with favorite teachers from my youth, and his class left a very positive impression. He could lecture and cite facts blindfolded, he really does know his stuff. Highly recommended!!!

Great teacher, I had some pretty serious medical issues go on during a summer session while I had him for my two classes, and I approached him about it after I had missed like 2 weeks of class. And he was cool about it, gave me an incomplete, and allowed me the time to make up the work I had missed, amazing guy, a lot of professors wouldn't do that

I've taken 3 classes with him. He's a nice guy and likes what he teaches and likes it when you discuss the books. The lectures drag on in a quiet class though. He'll just talk to himself for an hour if no one is participating. The essays are about your opinions. Easy A just for showing up but try to get something out of it too.

Had Tarutis for WCIV I. He's a cool enough guy who is easily approachable. My biggest issue with him is the fact that he had us purchase 2-3 additional books that we MAYBE read 2-3 chapters in. In fact, you could pass on the books and still be okay. His lectures are somewhat bland as they lack direction and planning. Overall, a good guy and class.

Very very very boring! He puts people to sleep and just rambles on about nothing. Goes off topic a lot ! Unprepared for class, and can talk for hours. Doesn't keep the class involved and is always late to class. I wouldn't recommend him.

An extremely intelligent and insightful professor! He was very generous with his time and he goes the extra mile to make sure you understand the material. I have referenced a great deal of what I learned from his class in my remaining courses. The reading he assigns is intriguing and genuinely provokes deep reflection. Definitely take his classes!
