Dr. Carter is one of the best teachers I had in my years of education. He knows what he is talking about. He only wishes and hopes for you to be the best, which makes him very demanding at times, but go to class and follow everything he says, and I promise you will leave his class a better musician.

He is a demanding professor, but if you're taking ear training you should have high standards for your own growth. Described by many as "the real deal" he truly is an amazing musician, teacher and human being. He can be a bit scary at first, but if you're persistent, friendly and honest with him, you'll find a professor you will always treasure.

Roland Carter is a world class clinician, performer, and composer. Just an amazing guy all-around. Can be a bit confusing..and a little bit rude. But he's still one of the greatest professors at UTC. And also one of the greatest musicians of all time.

Personally, I think if you are specifically a vocal music major, you have no excuse if you suck at sight singing. Anyway, Carter rocks! He is there to really make you think about sight reading. Very effective.

I absolutely love Dr. Carter! I love eartraining, and Dr. Carter really loves it too, which is infectious. It's harder if you don't get it right away, but only music majors take the course, and it's really important for majors to be able to have a good sightsinging ability. Dr. Carter helps you get it!!

Great teacher. He makes himself come off as mean but he's really a sweetheart. If things come up and you cant turn in something on time he is willing to work with you. Classes were long but he tried his hardest to make them bearable.

Teasts were painfully difficult. Expects nonmusic majors to understand everything about music. He has listening tests. Intro students must identify the instruments in a piece of music. He is unclear and will not help you. He's condescending and patronizing. He shouldn't teach an intro course.

Very passionate about what he is teaching. He makes you want to learn. Don't miss a class b/c he really rewards attendence. His tests are easy if you take advantage of what he does for you and if you study. Take good notes. Best teacher I've had!
