She doesn't give any feedback about your writing but expects a perfect paper. if you get stuck with her, find a way out. Easily the worst professor and class I've taken at UP.

I went into this class really wanting to get something beneficial out of it. Instead, the class was the equivalent of a saltine cracker. She has no respect for students. This was made clear when she made the 12 page research paper due during dead week (which is against University policy) and decided to have her final during this week as well.

She is an amazing teacher. She has helped me with many things. Every time she says something, it is crystal clear, and I am very interested in class.

She said she recently modified her teaching style, and thank goodness she did! First half of the semester is based solely on participation and effort. 2nd half of the semester you do a major research paper &your "final". No tests/quizzes or even midterms. If you ask for help/guidance she is more than willing. Great professor & made me like writing!

She's a pretty good Prof, but she can be really confusing on the first couple of assignments. ALSO, she never really helped me in her "conferences" just talked to me about the assignment for 5 minutes and then left. But overall her class is pretty easy, just be prepared to write A LOT.

She is a really good teacher although her grading seems unclear. She is one of those typical English teachers where you never know exactly what they want. Her class can be pretty fun sometimes but other times it can be boring. Overall I enjoy the class.

I enjoyed her teaching style and in class discussions, but didn't do well on papers. Once I figured out her particular style of writing and what she was looking for, I started acing papers. Really take into consideration all of her notes and you'll do fine.

Too many pointless things like other people have said. She's not very clear on what she wanted from the students in terms of papers and/or work. Frustrating because she taught as if it was your only class. Avoid her at all cost.

Expect the first three paper grades to be lower then you expect because you will get to revise them for a final grade. Its important that you are on her good side. So go to class, go to office hours, and go to conferences.

Comment:
Olivares has some sort of vague notion of perfection that she is incapable of expressing to her class. She will only award good grades to those who write about things she likes. Best advice, go to conferences, feel out what she wants to hear, and spit that back out on paper. Other than practicing regurgitation skills, a totally useless class.

Very nice and willing to help. The readings were always interesting, and she provided a lot of help on writing the papers. Plus, it's not always necessary to do the writing assigned; I have her class tomorrow, and we have a rough draft of an essay due. I haven't written one word, and I'm not the least bit worried.

Lots of pointless work, tacks on extra work so you can have as many as 4 separate assignments due the next class, "babys" through papers with lots of revision work and mandatory conferences. DONT GET ON HER BAD SIDE--dont disagree with her, show up to every class super prepared & eager to participate, and go to every conference available.

She was not helpful at all, you had to write her way or you got bad grades. Also the readings are borring and she gets mad if you don't read them. Also come to class because she yells at you if you don't. She is a feminist!!! Watch Out!! Bad!!!

She is a really good teacher. I learned how to improve writing skills, all writers can learn from her. There is a lot of unnecessary reading, but you're not quizzed on it. She is more than willing to help you and is very nice. Plus, she had great clothes.

Its a generally easy class, but there is alot of useless work to do. It's long and boring, and she gets mad if you don't read the assigned text. Kind of a useless class, and she doesnt do much to make it better.
