Comment:
I found Dr. Merlo's class to be enjoyable, but challenging for a 100 level course. Dr. Merlo's lectures were interesting. Although class is not mandatory, I would highly recommend going. Your final grade is based on four exams. If you read the textbook and attend class, you will do fine. You have to put in work to be successful in this course.

I highly recommend another professor for crim 101. She takes 20-30 mins of class, sometimes longer, to just talk about the news and gets sidetracked so easily. She does not have a PowerPoint and barely writes on the board. She tells you to rely on the textbook and only graded on 4 tests, if you do bad on first two, she tells you to drop the course

Dr. Merlo was a great professor! She was always there whenever I needed help or to answer any question. I did not buy the book and I still did good in the class. There's 4 exams plus about 9 extra credit points you can earn. I didn't do so well on two of the four exams but still got a C+ in the class. She's very caring. Would take her again!

She is a very kindhearted person, but does not give any notes in class or out of class whatsoever. There are no study guides or anything to go off of besides reading the book and trying to listen to what she says in class. Very hard, especially for a 101 class.

Dr. Merlo was by far the hardest professor that I had to take. However, she is an awesome professor. Show up to class, study hard, and take good notes. Merlo gives practical advise for the future and even assisted me getting an internship. She genuinely cares about her students. She still checks in with me. Hard class, but great professor.

The worst professor I have had in a while at iup. Her exams were horrible and her lectures are so vague, I did not learn anything. I had to withdraw from the class to ensure that my GPA would stay at a good place. Definitely avoid her if you can.

Comment:
Dr. Merlo's tests are ridiculous. She tests you on 5 chapters, 30 questions, and some are fill in the blank and short answer. It is extremely difficult to know which information you're supposed to retain for the exams. Luckily, she offers extra credit. You will not pass unless you attend classes regularly due to unannounced writing assignments.

She can be pretty intimidating at first but she's friendly and helpful. If you just do the work and apply yourself you will get a good grade.

Very tough, nice person, expect too much for a undergrade! I've been studying for a week non stop and still receive a bad grade. Her exams are six to eight chapters so you better read. or just don't take her

worst class i have taken at IUP so far, she does not care about her students. her exams are multiple choice and mostly fill in the black on about 5 or 6 chapters, you have to basically teach yourself and the book. would recommend to anyone

By far the worst professor I've had in my three years of college. Dosent care what's so ever about the students and only gives 3 tests which are impossible to get above a C on. She just rambles on and on and has no structure to the information being taught. Also she's an extreme feminist so she likes to push her personal agenda a lot. Avoid her.

Avoid her at all costs. I am have a 3.5 GPA and she made me want to switch my major. She is unreasonable and not willing to help at all. Don't waste your time going to office hours because she'll just beat around the bush and not answer your questions. Her exams are also unreasonable difficult.

Take someone else if you can. Super feminist, which can be annoying at times. Tests are ridiculously hard even when you study. If you want a chance to pass you better not miss any classes. In 3 and a half years at IUP this class has been my only C. Material was not hard she just made the class way more difficult than necessary.

Definitely not the easiest class in the world. She is a very challenging professor. You have to read the textbook because she will test you on stuff that she didn't mention in class. She is a genuinely nice person and I think she really cares about her students but she cane be pretty intimidating if she wants to be.

HARDEST CRIM class I've had and I love all my other crim classes. All she does is lecture without the textbook but expect you to know everything that is in the book. Her test are too hard and there is only three. She never gives out extra credit or study guides. She is by far the worst ever

Comment:
This class is entirely too hard for no reason. She does not give out study guides and makes the tests impossible. Instead of teaching she will just have guest speakers come in and she will not accept work even if you have an excused absence. Take a better teacher than this, AVOID easily the worst teacher Ive ever had..
