Allan is an amazing professor who cares for all of his students, his notes much like his desk top can be disorganized but if you have any questions hes more than happy to clarify. He provides you with specific topics that will be asked on the midterm/finals. He is a very sweet man and I highly recommend taking any course he offers.

Comment:

Allan is a very good guy and I like him. However, he is most definitely the most uninvolved prof I have ever had and was a ghost the entire semester. When he wasn't cancelling class he was ending it early and is very hard to get a hold of. His lectures are vague with no background info. There is 1week left and I have not received one single mark.

One of my favourite professors ever. Easy to reach out of class. Can negotiate deadlines if you are having a tough semester. Amazing feedback and knowledge especially in evolution.

Comment:

He's definitely slightly disorganized, takes awhile to mark assignments and test. But hes very easy going, fair marker and very approachable. His lectures might not be clear to everyone but he's an easy teacher to approach for any questions you might have. Definitely expect to work in group both in class and outside class.

Takes forever to mark labs and his expectations are very unclear. Wish he would of taught us how to actually do some of the material. Nice guy but just very disorganized.

Comment:

Nice guy but... VERY disorganized. Lecture slides are not clear, and are sometimes unfinished, which makes taking good notes impossible. Regularly does in-class group posters, and you have to give him credit for trying new pedagogical methods, but I didn't find it helpful at all. SLOW marker. You can still get an A, but I'd say it's not worth it.

Comment:

Allan is a very knowledgeable prof, but he is very busy as department head. His lecture slides are weak and often confusing until he ties everything in 10 minutes later. Lots of group work, so the textbook is definitely needed! He takes a while to reply to e-mails, but when he does he is very helpful! His exams are very fair too!

Allan is definitely willing to help in the lab! He grades his lab assignments more on a pass/fail basis, but will always let you know where you made mistakes. He isn't the easiest to get a hold of by e-mail. But he's a pretty laid back guy!

Be prepared to participate in a lot of group work. His powerpoints aren't that great, but the tests are mostly based on the group work, so you actually have to show up to class. He is so passionate about conservation and the environment and it shows in the way he teaches this class. Very interesting guy.

Allan's notes are vague and he likes to have a few group-work days a semester. Come to class prepared to write down every word he speaks and organize your notes accordingly to the lectures. You will find that if you answer questions the way he thinks you will do well:) He is quite friendly and approachable. Overall good prof!

I had him for 201 and the purposely took his 202 class. He's very nice and helpful, really approachable. He seems nervous talking in front of the class but he makes sense. Knows his stuff and respects all students, even annoying ones. You'll need to read your textbook and bring it to class.

Allan is a great prof. He is extremely kind, funny, and always willing to help you. His powerpoints and notes are quite vague, so be prepared to take a lot of notes from the textbook, but that goes without saying for most bio classes. He loves the subject and that comes through in his teaching. Highly recommended!
