Comment:
I have taken three classes with Ashbaugh, and I would take another if I could before I graduate. This woman is a Genuis with a deep and caring personality. She is eccentric, and yes, at times tangential. But she pushed me like no other to critically examine my soul, the world, and my culture. I will forever be all the better for it.

I took Nietzsche with her, and I gotta say Prof. Ashbaugh is the best Professor I have ever had. She explains things crystal clear and relies on student participation to figure things out. She lectures but she also has students figure things out themselves which is very helpful in learning. Ashbaugh will teach you how to discover yourself.

What I learned from Prof. Ashbaugh has shaped my character more than any other course I have taken in my life. She teaches from a standpoint based on true knowledge and understanding of the material. I have been able to balance my soul and follow reason over emotion by reflecting on her teachings. I would gladly take a class with her any day.

She has a way of taking philosophy and philosophizing it to the point that it becomes philosophically philosphical in the philosophical sense of philosophy and philosophizing the philosophizing of philosphically philosophical philosophy.

Comment:
Stereotypical philosophy professor in that she is smart and frequently thought-provoking but unpredictable and impossible to follow, during lecture or outside class. The most random grader imaginable; "A"s for stuff you scribbled in 30 seconds before class and "C"s for stuff you worked your ass off on and felt good about!

Comment:
While much of what Prof. Ashbaugh has to say goes over the head of many students, her sheer genius more than makes up for the fact. The ability to hear even a single word of Prof. Ashbaugh's thoughts is reason to be grateful. She thinks outside the box, has radical interpretations of conventional thoughts, and encourages students to do the same.

Good teacher but not Colgate quality. If you take her be ready for very random and completely unhelpful stories/tangents.

People who hate Plato often say they hate Ashbaugh, and these people are ignorant. She knows Plato better than anyone at this school and her teaching is full of passion and perfection. An excellent teacher for lovers of ancient philosophy.

By far the worst class I have ever taken. Not only did I hate going to class, but now I'm scared to take another philosophy class. Her grading is random at best, I got c's on papers I worked my ass off on and A's on papers I spent a half hour on. Horrible at best.

I have never dreaded going to a class as much as this one. First of all, you can't understand her. She seems to make no sense when a question is asked, paper topics are rediculous as well. Class was miserable, kind of hard, and boring as anything Ive ever taken.

At first I thought she was really smart and interesting, but now I straight up hate her. I feel like she doesnt even read the essays, or have any coherent scale for which she grades. She is stubborn, and has no interest in your ideas. She has killed my interest in her class very effectively.

A stultifying experience. Her lectures seeped like anesthesia into my veins, compelling me into a profound slumber. Too many tangents, too many petty dissections. Assigns really ambiguous essay topics, and grades them stringently against a standard that she doesn̢۪t ever articulate. Avoid her.

Prof Ashbaugh is the reason I became a Phil major. She is one of the most brilliant professors I've ever had - but you have to work for the benefits you get from her class and from her counsel. She won't make it easy on you, but it's worth it.
