Took Metaphysics at NYU. Cian is a fantastic professor, really nice. Metaphysics was a very interesting class. Cian also gives us class handouts which are really useful in helping us understand the material.

I am not at all interested in Philosophy, so at first I was totally lost in this class. Cian tends to get wrapped up in what he's talking about, which causes him to talk really fast and unclearly sometimes. But, if you email him a question or ask him after class he's more than willing to help you out. recitation helps. Plus, Cian is incredibly sexy

Comment:
Keeping it simple, good and bad points of him and his class (I can't really separate the two): Bad: The material seems purely speculative with no real purpose asides from speculation (unlike ethics). Likewise, papers and exams are hard. Good: Showing up to class and posting on the board is good chunk of your grade. Hard exams, but probably curved.

Comment:
Professor Dorr can be slightly scatterbrained at times, but lectures make at least as much sense as the readings. He sees through BS and isn't afraid to criticize, but his grading is very fair and he seems to recognize effort. Class was stressful at times, but I liked it (and him) a lot.

Intro to Philosophical Problems-- I think that he speaks in one run-on sentence for the entire class... he stutters sometimes so you have to pay very close attention. The lecture notes on Courseweb are very helpful, as is recitation (mandatory)... concepts aren't as hard to grasp if your TA talks in a more sensical manner than Cian.

I accused Cian of not caring for his students, and then he turned around and gave my grade and work personal and thourough attention. Don't judge him too quickly, and do the readings and you will be golden.

Lectures are interesting, if sometimes a little hard to follow. Cian knows his stuff and can be quite funny. I've never taken a philosophy class before and got A's. As long as you make an effort to understand the concepts, it's not that difficult.

Very scattered in his teaching. I was often completely lost even after having done the readings. Recitation didn't exactly help either. If you like your GPA, stay away from Cian.

He's really interesting to listen to if you're into philosophy already, but he's very scattered and hard to understand. Going to recitation was a must, and even then the papers are tough. Nice guy though, great philosopher, just needs practice getting his ideas across to students.

Very difficult to understand. Grading system sucks, it's almost as if he wants you to get a bad grade. Final was extremely hard and no one even got a chance to finsih. Homework takes hours upon hours to complete. Pass on this professor.
