Pretty easy. You have to go to class but you don't really need to listen. But he is SO boring (and no computers). The papers aren't that bad but he grades pretty hard and you actually need to put work in on them, but they are the only things that are graded. There are no tests.

If you talk in class he will love you and give you an A. Go to class, do your chapter summaries and do well one the papers (only 3 the whole semester) and you'll get an A. He will look over your paper and tell you what you need to get an A. Nice guy, just laugh at his jokes and you'll be good to go!

Such a nice guy. You don't follow the syllabus much but the class he just talks and tries to engage students. The only real homework there is consists of a weekly 2 page dbl spaces chapter summary. There are no tests just 3 700 word papers spaced throughout the semester, he does grade those tough but gives you ample time. Definitely take him!

Professor Kaufman is disorganized and, at times, quite rude. I wouldn't recommend taking him. He doesn't follow the syllabus, but he gives take home tests which are writing intensive. Good luck with the essays; if you don't write exactly what he had in mind, your grade will suffer!

Nice guy. But- Sabotages his own teaching by going off on tangents while already on tangents. Did not stick to syllabus, changed the class structure multiple times during semester. Pretty painful to try to learn from. I was only taking this for western traditions but now, in retrospect, I wish i just sucked it up and took art history. smh

This class is very easy, but he has no idea what he is talking about. he goes on tangents about nothing. take this class if you want to learn nothing and still get an A

It's the first time he taught the class, so he was still kinda figuring it out. It's not hard, but that's not his goal. He gives you the questions prior to the test, and allows (actually encourages) groups in working on that, except on the day of the test. Tests are verbatim off that but it's a lot that you have to write down in not a lot of time

Professor Kaufmann truly cares about his students. While his class requires a lot of work, he is always willing to take time out of his day to meet with you. Most helpful professor I've ever had.

Mr. Kaufmann is the man! He really loves what he does. The papers we had to write were kind of boing at times, but it got better as the class went on. I really enjoyed hi class he made us feel like he wasn't just our teacher but our friend too. The class wasn't hard, it was just hard for me. Hes really helpful and wants his student to do well!

Honestly, he's the best teacher I've had in all my schooling. I've learned so much& I can use what I've learned in the future. He loves interacting and tries to make a two hour class as fun as possible. At times it's demanding but that was excepted. He is a difficult grader because he expects the best but as your writing grows, so does your grade.

Made my first semester freshman year at Tulane a living hell. He does not tell you what he wants and is not helpful at all outside of class.

Ok, I realize his class requires a lot of time and concentration on the topics given, but at the same time it IS Tulane. He teaches English at a high level and demands work because he is a great professor. He worked with me when I was in a really tough spot this year. Take his class and you will NOT regret it. Just work hard and open your mind peop

If he can tell that you are passionate about your topic and he sees you are working hard, he will take that into consideration.

Look, he's a nice guy. Really. But he doesn't make any sense. He constantly goes off on tangents, he interrupts his own sentences, and tries to use YouTube videos to connect with his class. Even his written instructions contain confusing and vague phrases. Nice guy, but not fun to learn from.

Kaufmann's class revolutionized the way I think about structuring arguments and sentences. His class requires a lot of effort, but if you participate you will become a much better writer. You should take this class as soon in your academic career as possible.

RUN from this professor at all costs! He rarely makes sense in assignments and had all three of our papers due around the same time! Take ANY other writing class if you can.

If you value your GPA, RUN from this professor! He doesn't award A's lightly, and while he appreciates average and even excellent writing, it seems he only assigns A's to a chosen few! Not very informative on the topic, usually disorganized and unclear about what he wants from students.

While in the class, I didn't think I'd survive.. but in retrospect, Kaufmann was an excellent teacher and a fair grader. If you put hard work into his class (and you will), then you'll get the grade you deserve and he'll take care of you. It's definitely a lot of writing, but it's exciting to see your work improve so quickly throughout the semester
