Giles is my favorite prof at UCSB. Genuine, hilarious, and so easy to talk to. Take as many classes with him as possible! He always passes out a study guide for midterm final (did this for 119 as well) that is very very similar to the test. 4154

Love lecture! Keeps it interesting and lighthearted even when the subjects get dark. Extra credit on midterms if you do extra reading/posts on gauchospace. He's a great resource for the paper too. Easy class if you just keep up with lecture.

Though the class is very easy, the professor is awful. His lecture slides make no sense whatsoever. He posts the slides online, but since they don't make sense you have to go to lecture, and even then they don't make sense! Readings are not necessary. 50% essay midterm (that he gives the questions for before!) and 50% take-home final essay. Easy A.

Giles is great! He always keeps a light mood and pokes fun at people who leave early. Very knowledgeable and a great class to take. Just a midterm (gives you questions ahead of time) and a take home essay final so very manageable class. Definitely recommend it.

The class makes you really look at aging and the communicative process in a different way. However, having the class at 8am was a real killer and struggle to stay awake. You can honestly not go to class at all and still pass (section is a must though). The TA Susana Peinado is super easy going and helpful. Two essay midterms, one final paper. EASY

Who knew I'd learn so much from a comm and aging class? This class rocked my world! I LOVED going to lecture and seeing video clips/pictures he provided as relief (but also relevant) to lecture. He is extremely helpful and funny. I will definitely be taking his intergroup class in the Fall and recommending his classes to all my friends.

Howie is definitely one of the best professors in the comm dept. He's helpful (especially if you frequent his OH) and his tests are very reasonable. they're open ended which gives you a lot to work with.INtergroup comm turned out to be a very relevant class to take!

The reader has all of his lecture slides. Their is section...not sure why, all the TA did was go over what was in lecture. By the time you get to upper division I don't think that is really necessary.

Very interesting and applicable class. He's very animated and energetic during lectures, but does skip around a bit so it can get confusing at times. Examples in lecture are entertaining as well. However, the exams do cover LOTS of material, so prepare yourself. This class will challenge you to think, but is worth taking.

COMM and AGING doesn't seem interesting BUT was one of my favorite courses EVER at uCSB and loved the professor. TAKE THIS CLASS, it will teach you valuable knowledge that you can actually apply and stimulates your thinking for the future. LOVED IT.

Reader has lecture slides in it, but still take notes. For the tests, the key is to know what is outlined very well. Can be confusing bc he jumps around. It took me a test to realize what I needed to know and how to do it, but helpful at office hours. Go the them before a test, he is a big help.

Sometimes it's hard to understand him with his accent. He is sincere about the subject matter, but the lectures could be more organized. Lots of film clips to relate to concepts, but vague about what need to know on exams. Probably wouldn't take his class again.
