If you study a little bit (all it takes is 30 min) almost every day, keep up with the classwork, and participate in class you should be fine. Hes very predictable once you have had him for a semester and I am choosing to have him for all of my Spanish classes. Hes not life-changing or anything, but hes nice and cares about your success.

I love Gustavo!!! He tells us personal stories that are so entertaining (completely told in Spanish) and makes cute slideshows to keep us engaged. I want him next semester.

Gustavo was a great spanish professor. Love his teaching style. He is organized and knows the best way to help you succeed in spanish. If you skip class and don't complete the very easy homework, you WILL have a hard time. But do what you are suppose to and you will do great.

I did not take Spanish in high school, which is why I am in elementary Spanish. He goes super fast and doesn't change his schedule based on student understanding or anything. We have very long tests that are difficult to complete in an hour and sometimes things are on there we never learned about. Regardless, I am learning a lot.

Professor Fonseca is a great professor for those who are non-spanish majors. The class was very easy and if you want to get the language requirements out of the way, he is a good choice.

If you want to actually learn Spanish, switch out. While he's nice, he treated all of us (being in a higher level Spanish class) as though we were freshmen in high school. I came to learn the language and he constantly spoke english and let the class do so. Homework was busy work. Class was awful to sit through-every day I had to try to stay awake.

Professor Gustavo is the MAN!! Favorite prof on campus. I didn't like languages much before taking his class, but I enjoyed being his student so much that I'm already in my fourth semester of spanish (I did all four semesters with him). He's very passionate and super helpful. He's a little quirky but only in the best way! Take his class!!!

Prof. Fonseca is a sweet guy. The language barrier is difficult at times, but he understands eventually. I dislike languages but he has made Spanish understandable and tolerable for me. I'm taking him again! My biggest complaint would be that he changes his homework assignment document so you have to check it again before every class.

Comment:

Fonseca is a native spanish speaker, thus he has a very heavy accent. The course moves very fast and sometimes it's very hard to understand him or what he is teaching. He is nice but doesn't really work for me, had to drop the class and retake it with a native english speaker because of the language barrier. Often found myself just sitting in class

Fonseca is an amazing professor. Unbelievably nice and willing to go out of his way to help you. I took elementary spanish 1 from him and I was astonished at how easy it was to learn from him while my friends complained about their teachers and how hard spanish was. Take a class from him!

Gustavo's class is really interactive and interesting. Definitely my favorite course I took this semester. He does give out lots of assignments in class, and he tries to save paper by printing them onto little bookmark sized pieces of paper which are a pain for storage of grades. Other than that, excellent professor.

Fonseca is very nice, but his class is a lot of work, and often it is difficult for him to understand your questions, but he really tries to be clear. His classes are also somewhat stressful because he has tons of short activities, which makes it hard to predict or prepare for what will happen in class.

He is partly deaf because of Peruvian fireworks, but communication is better if you speak loudly. His work load is light, so it takes extra studying to really know the language. He is very kind and easy going.

He is a very sweet little Peruvian man with braces and he loves helping students, and is very kind. His English is not the greatest, but all the better to learn the language. I definitely like Fonseca, and will be sad not to have him anymore! I was/am in Span. 232.. a lot of tedious bookwork but class is kinda fun.

He was really nice, but I did not enjoy his class. I don't really feel like I learned anything because it was so easy. Really, the class was pretty much just Fonseca making us read sentences from the paper he just handed us. I did not enjoy it at all.

He is a good guy, but his teaching skills are limited. His grading scales are extremely scewed and believes giving a 15/25 on an essay is a good grade. I will have to take summer courses to catch up on this material.

Comment:

Fonseca is basically a nice guy but not the greatest teacher. His class is pretty easy but sometimes he can be unclear. If you are taking this class just to get your language requirement over with, he's the guy to take Spanish from.
