I don't know that she has pets, but there are people that want to be her pet. She's not very helpful if you want to come to her office hours. She was always very impatient and because she had so many students that wanted to see her she was very hasty. She doesn't explain things either, which would be esp. helpful when learning a dead language :(

Comment:

Helen Damico is an outstanding scholar and a dedicated professor. Far from a pet, I was often at loggerheads with her, however I gained much more than a working knowledge of Old English from Damico. What she teaches one about work and triumph cannot be learned in easy courses. Unbeknownst to most who frequent this site, easy does not equal good.

Comment:

Most of the reviews on here reflect the modern student's need to be led by the hand and for undiluted praise. She does not coddle. Damico is old school where the requirements for a good grade are dedication to the subject and a real work-ethic. If you come to class prepared with the knowledge and ready to show it, you will curry her favor/ do well.

Obviously the last the last rating was given by one of her “pets”. Damico is one of those teachers who aggregates her students into categories and singles people out. By the way you can quit sucking up the class is over.

Yes, Dr. Damico is a tough teacher - she does demand a lot of her students. But her demands aren't impossible to meet. Dr. Damico will teach you exactly as much as you're able to learn; but if you won't put the effort into her classes, then you'll get nowhere. Far from an "old bat," Damico is a brilliant and devoted teacher.

Taking this womens class is like going for a root canal. Not only os she an old bat she is an unpleasent old crow. Unclear,unhelpfull,and an anargumentitive "know it all." If you don't already hate dead languages you will when she is done with you.

She was totally unreasonable in her demands. This is the only class I have ever dropped in my life - halfway through the semester. The lectures were interesting but the examinations did not test the lecture material. She seems sweet enough, but be ready for some "tough love" with Dr. Damico.
