Comment:
I took Professor Boyden for colloquium, so not his usual class. Although our reading load was very heavy (about 17 works), the class itself was easy with weekly discussion notes and 2 essays. He's super nice, and his strong dad energy was endearing. I would definitely recommend taking him.

Comment:
Professor Boyden is very nice and knowledgable. The criteria for the class make it difficult to do well. There are two unannounced pop quizzes, he graded them pretty harshly, and they covered TONS of material. His classes are just straight lecture. He's open to answering questions, but it is just him at the front talking. So much material.

I took him for the Honors Great Books Colloquium, which was a TON of reading. We read around 14 books for the semester, with stuff like the Iliad, The Inferno, and some philosophy. Every class is a discussion on the material and participation really matters. We only have 3 papers to write. Boyden facilitates discussion and has unique perspectives.

Amazing professor if you're interested in the subject. His lectures are intriguing and has a genuine passion for what he teaches. He also is always happy to talk and help you succeed. Would definitely look out for his name for future classes.

Terrific lecturer. Brilliant man and enjoys teaching. Read before class, take good notes, and work hard and you will get a good grade and become a better critical reader, a stronger writer, and a more thoughtful student.

Great history teacher. He is incredibly knowledgeable on the information and knows what he is talking about. If you want to take Boyden have to be very interested in history to get through it as every class is an hour and fifteen minutes of straight lecture-no powerpoints, board, etc. Great teacher and class though.

Boyden is probably my favorite professor at Tulane. I took Spain 1369-1716 and Age of Reformation with him, and loved both classes. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the subject matters he teaches, and is a consistent and fair grader. Make sure you do the readings and take good notes, and you'll do well in his classes.

Boyden is a great guy, funny in an odd kind of way, and really knows his stuff. He expects you to try. He expects you to work hard. Sometimes the subject matter can be a bit dry, but he does his best to make it interesting. If you're having qualms, go for it. If you get to know him, the experience will be infinitely better.

Mixed feelings. Dr. Boyden is an extremely nice guy and has proven himself as a knowledgable and passionate professor. But his teaching style is horribly dry - straight lecture for an hour and fifteen minutes. No visuals, no discussion, etc. Tough grader and too few assignments. I recommend, but do know what you're getting yourself into.

Age of Reformation was a little bit dry, but it is the nature of the material. Boyden knows everything there is to know about the subject, really nice guy. You dont have to attend lecture but you should in order to do well. Hard grader and not many assignments to redeem youself. Great Professor overall, take if you want to learn a lot!!

Boyden is the best professor I've had at Tulane. Nice, approachable, and brilliant. Expect to take a lot of notes, but as far as I can tell the readings are essentially optional.

Lectures are LONG. He is a good teacher. However, if taking notes for an hr and 15 minutes straight is going to bother you don't take this class.
