Comment:

This class made me miserable. The amount of pieces covered all semester is literally IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with..even if you're a good student. He literally shoots information out like darts and expects you to remember it all. I couldn't cry. I was in disbelief. He's a very kind man if he likes you but he is VERY stubborn about the way he teaches.

He's not very clear about course requirements and moves at an incredibly unrealistic pace. There's a crazy curve because tests are tough and he gets mad if you don't understand. Highlight of the class is seeing him rant about how terrible he thinks the recordings are or swear about messing up. TAKE ALL THE NOTES. He can be nice at times .

Obviously he doesn't have a great rep for temper, but it's funny to see him get excited when you catch on to things going on in class or show interest. Unfortunately he moves VERY fast and is not always clear about the course requirements even if you ask. Take tons of notes. Never forget the things he says. STUDY CONSTANTLY. Awesome rants.

Dr. Murphy can be difficult to get along with, but he really is a phenomenal pianist and a good teacher if you can learn to work with him. How you can learn that, I'm not sure. Practice, listen to what he says, and you should be fine--and come out a much better pianist.

He's made me cry (i'm male). we worked on his technique the entire semester. we never worked on the music b/c our lessons never got that far. he couldn't stand to give me lessons; in fact, i think he tried to make my lessons boring by giving me the exact same lesson every week. despite that, if you CAN HANG, he IS a good piano player. TRULY HELL!!!

Didn't mean to put angry little fellow so many times. A glitch with the website or the computer I was using caused it. Although he has very real anger problems, he does give out praise if you come to lessons prepared and if he sees you are trying.

Emotionaly unstable. Control freak. Usually very unfriendly and at times psychologically and emotionaly abusive. Gets angry frequently for no apparant reason and takes it out on students. Very argumentative. Gets very angry if you opinion differs from his. In short, not emotionally mature.

this Prof is not a nice person. He will destroy your self-respect. Quite frankly, he is a psychological/emotional bully. Makes students cry. He has ruined more days for me than I can count. He cares about results, but his most abrasive personality negates any talent or ability he has. Stay away from him or he will make you miserable. no joke

This professor has serious anger management issues. He's VERY opinionated and if you disagree with him on ANYTHING he goes into a rage. He only capable of seeing one side of an issue..HIS! If you value your self esteem, and don't like being treated like dirt, get Jac as you piano teacher. NOT THIS GUY!!! He throws tantrums on a regular basis.

He is complete jerk. First professor to make me cry on multiple occasions. If you are a well trained pianist and can live up to his expectations you should be fine. If you get on his good side, AKA are freakin awesome, then you will probably like him and learn a lot. But if not, he will ruin your life. I am not kidding.

Comment:

While the class is not for music majors, Prof. Murphy teaches it like it is. You are expected to remember everything he says and the class goes very in depth into a few pieces. I would recommend a teacher that uses more of a comprehensive approach.
