Dr. Norman is an amazing professor and clearly loves art philosophy. I had her for the Arts and Ideas FYE and although I did not like the class at all, I loved Dr. Norman. She is always willing to help students understand the material. She is a hard grader though, and if you want to improve your writing/essays, go to her office hours.

Comment:
Dr. Norman makes this funny noise when she explains things, where a normal person might say "yeah" or "right". She's a really engaging teacher in seminar, and a pleasure to hang out with outside of class. A really cool and interesting person, she made me interested in stodgy stuff like the Odyssey. She gave me a B- on nearly all my papers, though.

Comment:
Professor Norman is very smart. She is very excited about class material, but can be scatter-brained at times. She can lead class discussions amazingly well and often times has great insight. She is bubbly and peculiar in a good way. She is a moody and tough grader but I would take any of her other classes.

A really smart, friendly teacher. Her methods of teaching are a little out there, but it's philosophy after all. She grades pretty strictly, but the reliance on reading the book isn't critical, because she explains it. It's a trade off, and it's tolerable.

Comment:
Terrible. Philosophy is the study of ideas, not people. She loves talking and hates entertaining ideas from students. She obviously couldn't care less about her intro course. She would even try to insult students during Marx. If you have any sort of interest in philosophy then avoid this class.

She is awesome. Her brain is so impressive that it fills the room....she is a modern day vortex who spins out memes at an incredible rate. she is even nice to the people who make stupid comments in class, she is forgiving but a tough grader!

Clear lectures, to the point. Helpful outside class in essay matters. Does seem to grade entirely on length of essay tests. If you're upper division, make sure you write at least 10 pages for the tests. Anyting below that and you're asking for the Stormin'

I was doing fine in her class, until she berated me for not reading, and then i pointed out in the text what i was saying. I told her maybe she should do the assignments before class as well. Never got over a C after that. Go figure.

She is a lot of fun to watch in class, but I'm pretty sure that she grades her tests solely on how much you write. I answered all three questions on her test once very thoroughly but precisely and to the point and I received a B-.

Norman is a decent teacher, but she is ****. I have put the same answers on tests as girls in the class and Norman gave me less credit. She has also refused to help me after class and I discovered later she was only helping female students at that time.
