Attendance is pretty needed as there is no online page and 6 inclass assignments all semester. Mcneil is truly so smart and has so much knowledge and passion on the course which was great. Exams are just in class essays and you get the question a week in advanced to plan it out and you can use textbooks during the exam. Not a bad history gen ed

Great professor! Class is completely lecture based (there is NO online page) so if attendance is hard for you dont take this class. No homework, 3 in class essays and you get an outline and she gives you the info needed in lecture. Book not needed but can help. I took this class as an easy gen ed (ISOM major) and it was 100% worth it!

Professor McNeil is a very friendly, straight-forward lecturer. You definitely learn a lot in the class and you are graded by exams and in-class response papers. While I liked the class, it was frustrating that Professor McNeil wasn't the one grading papers, but the TA was. The essays were graded too tough and there was no rubric for them.

Having an interest in Irish history before the class probably helps, but if you do this class is an easy A. She assigns a lot of readings but none are really mandatory. Easy pass-fail grades on video response paragraphs. Great lecturer, can be funny, loves the subject and is always available for help. Laura is awesome! Highly recommend this class!

Terrible class. Do not take. Lectures are super boring and there is no online page or anything so if you miss a lecture or two because you are sick you'll fall behind quickly.

Prof. McNeil is awesome. If you like lecture-style classes, she's perfect. She's clear and is easy to understand. She gives bi-weekly write ups that take no longer than 5 minutes on videos that you can have your notebook open for. For her tests, she gives you the prompt beforehand, allows you to have your book and the prompt with an outline on it.

Easy A.. if you go to class. She didn't even have a moodle page, so you definitely want to go to class to get notes and know what is going on. If you write down what she lectures, then those notes are literally the answers to the essay questions. Essay questions are handed out beforehand too.

Really good class. Learned a lot more about Ireland than I previously knew. Gave out the questions to exams beforehand. Allowed to bring in a page of notes to the exam. Final can be turned in online.

So helpful, clear, and concise. There are three in class essays, but you get the question ahead of time and can bring your textbook and an outline. She really wants you to understand the subject and will clear up points of confusion well. As she says, she wants you to do well in her class.

Prof is absolutely amazing. Three in-class essay exams (open note), and one take home final essay. The TA was not very helpful, and I felt that she graded my essays lower than they should have been. McNeil is a wonderful woman, explains everything in detail, is understanding, and is always willing to work with the students. Not your typical prof!!

Great professor, great class. Really informative/interesting lectures! The TA was kind of a pain.. I think I deserved a better grade then what I got, so I guess be careful? The final paper was also a very hard topic and kind of isolated from the rest of the course (on this one guy we didnt talk very much about).

she is awesome. best history teacher i have had this semester. her lectures are clear and she really wants the students to have an understanding of the material. always thanks the person for asking a question. i would recommend this class. grading is a little tougher because it is a 400 level class. but she is a nice lady with a sense of humor.
