Interesting class. If you don't go to class you will not pass. There are only 4 tests which make up your entire grade. Reading the books is important, but she goes over a lot of the material during lecture.

Not a bad professor but not my type. Doesn't allow ANY phones/laptops in class & will drop your grade if you use them. 3 books required. 100 points for the whole class, all weighted on 4 cumulative tests.

Professor Holland is extremely knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. Her level of expertise is incredible, and she made me really enjoy philosophy. She has very clear explanations and expectations. I took the honors section of this class, and the tests were all in essay format that you knew what you were going to write about beforehand.

Dr. Holland is an excellent professor. In this introduction philosophy class, you will learn to think logically and carefully. If the way you treat information doesn't change by the end of this class, you haven't been paying attention. You must do the readings and stay focused during lectures. Your grade is based on tests with heavy essay component

Professor Holland is a very good professor who knows what she is talking about, but is insanely rude as a person. She assigns a lot of readings but doesn't grade you on them at all. Her class is out of 100 points and all exams are cumulative.

This is THE worst professor I've ever had. If you don't think the way she does your wrong. Be prepared to think they way she does to score well on essays. I've never had a professor shoot down the way I think, but she did and without showing courtesy. Easily the worst professor I've had. DON'T TAKE.

Class starts off very boring, but becomes very interesting as the semester goes on. However, you must be prepared for her tests, especially the short answer as she tends to be pretty picky. Interesting class, but if I had to take it again, I'd take it with someone else

I took the honors course and am so glad I did one of the extra credit options. This course was very demanding, because of both the amount of work and content. With that being said, Professor Holland is an expert and goes out of her way to explain the content. She is so willing to help you understand the material and what is expected of you.

At first she seems really intense and scary, but if you stick with it and are active in participation she warms up fast and is super nice! She is also incredibly intelligent and you are guaranteed to learn a TON if you put in effort. Favorite professor.

Professor Holland seemed cold and arrogant during the first two weeks, but she warmed up quickly. Keeping up with the reading assignments is crucial, but if you don't understand the material, she's very good at discussing it in class. I really respect her as a person and a professor.

She isn't friendly at all, very monotone, doesn't care about her students success it seems like. She acts like she is above everyone and if you bring in your own opinions she will always correct them with what she thinks is right. Very disappointed in this class and this teacher. Don't even try for the extra credit.

Intro to Philosophy was a great class! At first, Holland came off as a tough teacher with no sense of humor, but she become more friendly throughout the semester. The material is tough, but she is very thorough in class. Very interesting and worthwhile! Also, she gives an optional final that can only help your grade.

Very interesting class and the books you read will apply to your life in more ways than you will realize at first. Holland can be rude or upfront, but its only because she tests people. Challenge her and you will get more out of the class. Also, online tests include vocab. and are written on word documents: use the synonym ability with right click

She's a good teacher but a hard grader. Listen in class and you will do fine. Read the books and take notes in her lectures. There is a high level of class participation, she will call on anyone at anytime, so unless you have anxiety with that environment, you will do fine. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Holland's class was pretty easy. If you attend class, and you listen to her, you should get a high B or an A. It's that simple. If you do not expect to fail. To do well in this class you need to hear her lectures. They are very important, and she has a lot to say. She is not a dull teacher. She is very smart, and I really enjoyed the class. Take it

No teacher has made me lose interest in a subject and a have a bad attitude about the class (and teacher) more quickly than she has. She has an over the top arrogance about her. I have nothing but negative feelings towards this professor. I love studying philosophy, but she makes it seem like a horrible chore.

I had Professor Holland for two classes in my university career and though her classes are not easy, you learn alot! For those who think they may want to pursue a further degree (MA, PhD, law etc) she is a fabulous teacher and sets you up well for future research assignments. She is very helpful to students who give a crap. Take her if you can!

If you go to class and pay attention, you'll do fine. She wont put anything on the test she hasn't explained in detail in class. All test are comprehensive but easier than it sounds. Don't even try to read the Mill book. She explains it completely in class. She's intimidating at first but will lighten up as the semester goes on. Good Class.
