the professor told us that a 60% in his class should be an A but the university doesn't go by his criteria. Awful professor. didn't hand out a single good grade to anyone.

Doesn't let students know what is on exams or quizzes. He just repeats read the book, meanwhile the book is nothing how he teaches. Moves really fast. Doesn't give enough time during online quizzes to do the work yourself. HE IS VERY BAD AT EXPLAINING TOPICS. He doesn't post any of the notes or anything.

Not sure why his rating is so low. Prof Torras is great. He makes economics interesting, and although his quizzes are fairly difficult and his problem sets take a lot of work, if you pay attention to lectures and use the textbook while doing these assignments you WILL do good. Hes willing to help you if you show you care, so definitely participate!

Great Professor! He was humorous but also very informative. If you take notes carefully, you'll get a good grade. His test is in essay questions so get ready to write.

Comment:

Nice guy but he makes this class more annoying than it needs to be. He doesn't post any of his lecture notes online and expects you to just take notes... yet moves so fast that you can barely even keep up with notes. Also a very tough trader and VERY vague in his expectations for both the essays and exams. Don't expect any rubrics or study guides.

Lectures are hard to follow & he moves quick. Mainly consists of drawing confusing graphs giving vague detail. He also gives annoying pop quizzes, which most dreaded in my class. He gives two take-homes of problem sets, which are pretty much impossible unless you work with the rest of the class or a group to try to figure it out. Difficult final.

He Doesn't use the textbook ever. He doesn't give you anything to follow in class and does not make the lecture notes available online. He is hard to follow and is not a very good teacher. Very repetitive.

Comment:

Professor Torras has managed to spark an interest in Economics that I never had before. As an Econ major, of course I liked the subject but from the topics we discussed in class, I literally saw a whole world view of Econ. Also, he is brilliant in the field of Environmental Economics if you're interested in it. That said, he is a fantastic prof.

Really tough to follow along with his lectures. His grading practices are strange and puzzling. You're not really sure how you're doing in the class until you actually receive your final grade. He likes to make you think and challenges students to do so. He seems knowledgeable about the subject but is quite self opinionated.

Prof Torras is extremely knowledgeable. However, he has a hard time transferring that knowledge onto his students. He's willing to discuss things after class only if they are not related to a homework, take-home exam, etc. A lot of self-discipline and self-learning is required. However, because of this, I did teach myself a great deal in the class.

Worst teacher at adelphi and this is my 4th semester. He does not teach anything that is on his exams. He picks favorites and gives them A's. His tests have no rubric so even if you answer short answers correctly he'll still mark them wrong. STAY AWAY!!!

Prof. Torras is an excellent teacher. Those who say that he is boring just have no interest in the subject itself. If you are interested in Economics, take his classes -- he will really teach you how to think about problems. His teaching methods are innovative and he lets you decide how much you want to learn.

The worst teacher I ever had at my career at Adelphi. The only grade was a take home final...not so bad right??? My uncle is an economist and he looked at the final and his words were "what the hell is wrong with this guy". AVOID TAKING HIS CLASSES. I hope he gets fired VERY SOON...I wish the business department would take action

Don't waste your time with him. Class was a nightmare to sit through. He would call on random people to make sure everyone was awake. After he realized that no one was paying attention he started to answer his own questions. Steer clear of him all together. I HAD to take this class, but if I knew he was this bad, I would have waited.........

i would like to start off saying that torras is the worste prof. in the department. i got an A in the class but i had to write a 30 page paper which took me 3 months. he doesnt teach anything and he is a bias grader who grades on who you are not what you know. i would recomend avoiding him at all costs. he has no problem putting you down.

Ok, I really don't know who thinks he is the best eco professor - definitely not students in my class. He IS very boring, and you learn nothing in class. He also gives one craaaazy final(24 pages in my case) and three crazy problem sets. The way he grades those is also crazy, discriminatory and unclear.
