Dr. Marten's Kinetics could be described as trial by fire, don't get burned. He is very outgoing and his excitement for the subject is contagious. He keeps pace with lots of material while teaching clearly and thoroughly. Mark your textbook up, study his HW assignments, and you will be prepared for his exam. UMBC is fortunate to have Mark Marten.

Class is not easy but he is very helpful if you go to his office. He tries to keep the class interesting by making jokes and relating the material to you in a way you can understand. Go to class and take notes. Do the homework because he likes putting similar things on exams. Overall, one of the best ChemE teachers at UMBC.

Underclassmen of UMBC, there is hope. If you are able to pass on into the senior year you will find teachers that will work with you and reward you according to your work. This class was interesting and comprehendible. He moves fast at times, but you will never feel like you are drowning.

Dr. Marten was one of the hardest professors I had in ChemE!! That first exam in Kinetics, I thought I failed completely. I was so exhausted I went straight to bed right after (it was still morning time!)...and didn't get up until late that night!! Anyone

You seat in the class thinking, I finally have kinetics figured out, then BAM!, your exam grades wake you up to reality. Also be ready to be glared at if you choose to seat in front, I still have nightmares.
