I love Marty Clag, also known as the muffin man. His sarcastic comments make me look forward to his class everyday. He calls me "bynigi" and I'm not sure what it means, but he is very funny. I actually have him at Glen Allen HS, not VCU.

I took his class in Fall of '09 and don't think he teaches there anymore - but he made us purchase our textbook from him for $40 (and couldn't have cost him more than $5 from a copy shop)Probably a good professor in the past, but it seemed like he was too busy this semester with his newly released book to do anything but walk in, lecture, walk out.

If you listen to any of the comments on here, pay attention to this one. The man is amazing I would recommend him hands down to any and everyone. Great guy, great instructor, and one of the few professors at VCU you may actually learn something from.

clagget made latin as boring as it could possibly be...which is...you know, pretty boring. many people liked him, though, cause he's a pretty easy grader.

Get thicker skin and take the class. six years since I did but I felt the need to put in my 2 cents....hated doing the work, loved being in the class. The guy is hysterically funny, made class fun, it's not favorites, it's called serious rapport. He's one fo the few teachers I've ever had that took the time to get to know his kids. -Hootman

He makes this class SO easy, it's mainly memorization but when he assigns you to translate sentences, you'd better do it because they're always on the midterm and final. I aced both classes without much effort, and he always made class fun with cracks about the students and TAs, especially Uffy and Henderson.

Really great professor. it's understandable why some people would be intimidated by him since he calls people out in class, but i felt like he was really encouraging. He gives a lot of work but in the long run it is def for the benefit of the student. If you keep up with the class it's pretty easy..just go to class, listen and TAKE NOTES! He's

I took clagett for several semesters...I feel terrible that I am not continuing the classics minor right now. What people hate about him is that he MAKES you do the work. He puts you on the spot in class and makes you answer it. If you don't he waits for you to figure it out. Can make a person kind of nervous. But when you have had him for 6 semesters, the class is a blast. Great professor, knows what he is talking about, and hates slackers.

He obviously plays favorites, is impatient, blunt, and rude. His attitude stinks, if you don't get something immediately he makes you feel stupid about it. I really do not like his teaching style. He is not a fun teacher, and unfair.

Clagett is the type of guy that either you love or you hate, as many of these comments can tell you. I personally love the guy, even though after my first semester A I went on to fail my last semester and had to retake it. He's not hard, he just asks that you go, and he doesn't even get that pissed if you don't do your work, he'll help you through it. He jokes around a lot so you have to learn not to take him too serious, but he seldom calls on people who are shy. Latin was tough, but not Clagett.

Gives an immense amount of homework and quizzes but only for the students' benfit of learning the materials. Professor Clagett is a wonderful instructor and is very big on student involvement! Although he seems intimidating, he has made Latin a very enjoyable subject, much better than Spanish which is crap compared to Latin, literally!!
