Professor Oware is arrogant, unapproachable, and cruel. He will not be understanding if you miss class, need extensions, anything. He doesn't let students use the bathroom during his 1.5 hour long lectures. He once gave us a 15 page bluebook exam and 1.5 hours to finish. I would avoid his classes at all costs.

There's no hype to Oware unless you are problematic and/or non-black to where you feel like he's a great professor because he doesn't check you or that he's 'less aggressive'. You get graded based on how similar you think to him or if you memorize all the concepts like he does. He is very aggressive towards POC women and thinks he's always right.

He will give you the most authentic and real education at DePauw. He is a passionate professor and will constantly have you questioning social constructs. He opens a space to have difficult conversations with a diverse group of students. Do your readings, take notes, be engaged (he will call on you) and this class is an amazing opportunity.

Comment:
Had him for my Freshman seminar and loved his passion. He knows what he is talking about and makes the class interesting and enjoyable. Participation is a must but he makes it easy for your opinions to be heard. A tough grader but once you figure his style out it is pretty easy to get good grades.

Took two upper level required classes with Oware. He makes boring material exciting and cares about his students. I love his enthusiasm and humor in class and out. He can be intimidating at times but he is a great guy and a great professor.

My favorite prof so far. He's so clear and interesting. He loves what he teaches, he's so excited about the material and is genuinely interested in what his students have to say. You have to do the reading though, and come prepared, or he'll call you out. Class is totally discussion- based. Great prof!

He is so clear with material and everything is done by class discussions, never lecture. Expect to participate and he can be very intense...he made me cry once because his talk is more of a yell. Watch out for one on one contact if you have a problem bc he was scary sometimes. Great prof though, does his job well and gives a fair but hard test.
